No Controversy, McNabb is the Starter

Donovan McNabb

Despite the solid play of QB A.J. Sunday night against New England, Donovan McNabb is still Andy Reid’s guy. When asked about whether McNabb would remain the starting QB, Andy Reid answered with a simple ‘yes’.Reid is right about this. When Donovan McNabb is healthy, he will and should return to being the starting QB.

Feeley has been solid in relief, but that is what he is, a good backup. Feeley had crucial mistakes against the Patriots. He fought hard, but in the end he cost the Eagles the game.

People have such short memories of Donovan McNabb. In 2006 McNabb was an early MVP candidate before having his knee injury.

Since then, he has been battling back from that injury. This year you see that he has been great some games, and bad others. That is expected when coming back from this type of injury.

To those people who say that Donovan will never be the same, they need to look at his progress so far.

Week one against the Packers, McNabb could not out run a defensive tackle.

In week 10 against the Redskins, where McNabb ran seven times for 37 yards. He was making guys miss with moves, and started to resemble “the old Donovan”.

Even in the Dolphins game, where McNabb did not play well, he made some great plays with his legs. On a 2nd-and-22 Donovan escaped the pocket, and was able to race for 26 yards, and a big first down. Those are the kind of runs that will break a defense down.

Ask any NFL player who has suffered an ACL injury. The rehab process is brutal, and it could take up to two years before a player is fully right. So far it is has not even been a full year since he had his surgery to repair the knee.

As time goes by you will see growth in Donovan. Once he is fully right, you will see the McNabb who can escape the pocket, and fire bullets down field to open receivers. Right now you see Donovan trying his hardest to work his way back. The only way to get through this, is to continue to play. It would only set Five back if he had to sit on the bench.

To all you Eagles fans who want McNabb gone you are just ridiculous. No QB in franchise history has ever done as much as McNabb has. I know how good McNabb is when healthy, and that is who I want as the Eagles QB.

All these people who are yelling for McNabb to be gone, will probably miss him when the Eagles have nobody at QB.
