Eagles president Joe Banner spoke with Howard Eskin on 610 WIP, and had some interesting things to say. The biggest question people wanted to know, is what is the future of Donovan McNabb, and Andy Reid. Banner had this to say about Five:
“I can’t envision a situation in which (Donovan McNabb) is not our quarterback next year … I believe there is a very, very sizable silent majority who realize how lucky we have been to have Donovan McNabb. I mean, we are talking about a quarterback who went to four straight (NFC) championship games. There are only four quarterbacks in the history of the league that have done that. You are talking about a quarterback who has had a higher winning percentage in his first seven years in the league than Peyton Manning. You are talking about a quarterback that has one of the highest quarterback ratings over the first seven seasons, one of the best TD-to-interceptions ratios of any quarterback in the history of this game in his first seven seasons in the league … My expectations, and I can’t really even picture a different scenario, is that he’ll be the quarterback (next season).”
Banner on head coach Andy Reid:
“It was never discussed, as far as I know it was nothing he ever contemplated. If he did its nothing he ever shared and we’ve had many conversations over a long period of time; some of them very deep. As far as I know that was never considered … I don’t think it ever affected the team … Yes, he will be the coach next year. From our perspective and everything he said to us he will be the coach next year.”
I hope this puts an end to the rumors, and speculation. I have said on here several times that you need McNabb to stay. I was happy to hear Banner back his guys the way he did.
Andy Reid is a great coach, and McNabb when healthy is an elite quarterback. You don’t just throw them away from one bad season.
Even if the Iggles can’t salvage this season, you have to believe that the front office will do what it takes to win next year.
