Phillies Lose Rowand

Aaron Rowand (about.com)

Aaron Rowand has agreed to a five year, $60 million dollar contract with the San Fransisco Giants. Why couldn’t the Phillies get this deal done? Apparently the biggest issue was the length of the contract. Phillies general manager Pat Gillick does not like to give long term contracts, and Rowand wanted that stability.

“Bottom line, I wanted to get in a spot where I would be long term,” said Rowand, who noted he weighed four or five similar multi year offers. “In this day of free agency, that’s not commonplace. That’s really the thing I was looking forward to most.”

Way to go Gillick. Your method of not handing out long term contracts, might be good in theory, but it just lost the teams best outfielder.

If you want top talent, then you have to commit long term in todays game. Do you think somebody like Johan Santana would ever sign somewhere for only 3 years? Great philosophy Gillick.

This is just one of a long list of bad moves by Gillick. Heck the best move Stand Pat ever made, was trading for Aaron Rowand. Now he lets him get away. This is unbelievable.

Aaron Rowand Runs Into Fence(www.paulaltobelli.com)This is a guy who ran through a friggin wall for the team! He is everything Philadelphia fans want.

I almost miss Ed Wade at this point. He just made a trade to get Miguel Tejada. Why can’t Gillick pull that off?

Tori Hunter has signed with the Angels, and Andrew Jones is with the Dodgers. So now all the top center fielders are gone. Get Ready for Victorino in center every day.

The Phillies show everybody yet again that you can never have faith in them. They finally make the playoffs with a talented young team, and instead of doing what it takes to get to the World Series, they let one of their best players leave.

Forget about Iguchi playing third base too. He has signed with the San Diego Padres. They can’t have another year of Wes Helms can they?

I am fed up with the Phillies, and I won’t be wasting my money going to that sand lot anymore. Until they prove that they are going to be serious contenders, I won’t ever be going back.
