The Eagles season is all but over. They are 5-8, and are only technically still in the playoff picture. McNabb has been coming back from a devastating knee injury, Andy Reid has dealt with off season problems, and the Eagles have just not had a good season. This Sunday the Eagles travel to Dallas to face the 12-1 Cowboys who blew them out earlier this year. Dallas is clearly the better team right now, and it looks like another Eagles loss is on it’s way.
So what is going to motivate this team to play hard?
Possible Revenge, and Terrell Owens.
The Eagles were once in the same seat as the Cowboys before. Back in 2004 the Birds were 12-1 playing great football. Their opponent was the Dallas Cowboys at home, and this was the game that would wrap up home field throughout the playoffs.
The Eagles won the game, but the events that took place that day were the beginning of the end of Owens playing in Philadelphia.
Owens tore two ankle ligaments and broke his leg on a tackle from behind by Dallas safety Roy Williams. (The play pointed to creation of the rule against “horse-collar” tackles.)
With the star receiver seriously injured, all hope had been lost on winning the Super Bowl. The Eagles managed to get to the big game without TO, but lost 24-21.
TO had a miraculous come back, playing only 6 weeks after injuring his ankle, but he was clearly lacking his deep speed.
That tackle by Roy Williams ruined the Iggles best season in 24 years, and now it is time to return the favor.
This Sunday there should be a bounty out on Terrell Owens. Every time he catches the ball, guys should do whatever it takes to take him out. Dive on his leg, rip his face mask off, and stomp on his head. Do whatever it takes to end this guys season, and the Cowboys.
In a recent conference call with the Philadelphia media, TO told reporters that he is having ‘the last laugh’. Well this weekend the Eagles should make him eat his words. The Eagles should be the last ones laughing. The only way to do that, is to take TO out.
Many will say that those type of things don’t happen anymore in today’s NFL. Tell that to Shawne Merriman. These things still go on, and if the Eagles had any guts they would make it happen.
Just one good hit, and the Cowgirls season could be over. Here’s to hoping that’s how this weekends game goes down.
