Battle For Mediocrity

(AMCGLTD.COM)This game is truly as meaningless as it gets. Neither team is playing for a playoff spot, nor are they playing for a top draft pick. This is the game for mediocrity. Both the Eagles, and their opponent the Buffalo Bills are 7-8, and trying to at least not finish the season with a losing record.

The Birds have played great football lately, winning the past two games over the Cowboys and Saints, but it is too little too late. Optimists will say if not for the muffed punts(green bay), and the 97 yard miracle(bears), the Eagles could potentially have finished the season 10-6 again. Pessimists will say that this team has missed the playoffs 2 of the last 2 seasons, and that they only made it because Jeff Garcia saved the season.

So how good is this team? Do they suck, or have they underachieved? I lean to wards this team being better then their record. They may finish the season at .500, but there is hope for next year.

Donovan McNabb is showing that his knee is no longer an issue. Earlier in the year it seemed to be a major problem, but now McNabb is scrambling like he used to. Despite all the trade rumors, I believe Donovan will be an Eagle next season. With Donovan being 100% there is some hope for next year.

The defense has also been surprisingly good this year, especially the front seven. Brodrick Bunkley, and Mike Patterson have been great on the defensive line. Trent Cole has played at a Pro Bowl level, and the Birds actually have good linebackers.

Unlike most fans I have spoken with, I do not feel that this team needs a major overhaul. I think only a minor re-tooling is needed to get this team back on top of the wide open NFC.

One thing you should look for again this weekend is young players who could make a difference next season.

Stewart Bradley had an awesome performance last week, and all eyes should be glued to him. He could potentially be next years starting middle linebacker. I hate to make comparisons, but he reminds me of BRIAN URLAKKERZZ! No really he looks like a player, and watch how he does.

Max Jean-Gilles is another Eagles who took full advantage of his playing time. He looked like he could be a starter sometime in the future as well. He is especially good at run blocking. Watch the holes that open up on the right side, because of him.

So there is no playoff hunt to push for, no draft pick, no revenge, and nothing to really play for, but pride and evaluating young talent.

I will be watching even though it hurts so much to be out of it.

Why did I kept hearing on Sirius radio today how Donovan McNabb is going to be traded to the Vikings? My GOD!! And why are you so stuck on him staying? Get rid of him while he is still worth a fifth rounder.

It is all speculation that arised from the drafting of Kevin Kolb. McNabb will not be an Eagle forever, but he will be back next year.
