The Eagles are due to have a transition at offensive tackle. Jon Runyan and Tra thomas are both getting old, and need to be replaced.
The Eagles do have some options already on the team that could be the solution.
Despite being abused by Osi Umenyiora, Winston Justice still has a future at RT. Justice seemed out of place at LT, and played much better at RT in the week 17 game against the Bills.
Left guard Todd Herremans is really better suited at LT. He played well there his rookie season, and seems to struggle at times pass protecting at LG. The main problem is he does not naturally bend his knees well enough to block low on DTs. He also seems to struggle anytime teams stunt or blitz his gap. Unless a potential stud OT slips in the draft, I think they would be better off moving Todd to LT.
You would hate to move Shawn Andrews out of his RG position, but if the Eagles ever needed to, they could. Andrews would have to drop some weight, but he could probably dominate at RT.
If either starting guard were to move Max Jean-Gilles would be able to fill in their spot well. He got in a few games to wards the end of the year, and played very well.
As far as free agency goes, I highly doubt the Birds will look for an offensive lineman. The one guy I am really high on, is Max Starks from Pittsburgh. He lost his starting job at RT due to poor play, but filled in great at LT when he was called upon. He is only 26 years old, and could probably be signed for marginal money(Banner special).
I will be interested to see what Dallas does with Flozell Adams. I don’t think he is as great as some people do, but I would like them to have to shuffle their line around.
