Jevon Kearse Released

Jevon Kearse Sacks Michael Vick 2004 NFCCG (philadelphiaeagles.com)

The Kearse is over. 12 hours before free agency officially kicks off the Eagles have released defensive end Jevon Kearse. This cut is not a surprise at all, as everybody has expected it to happen for a while now.

The most disappointing thing about this, is the fact that Jevon never lived up to the large expectations placed upon him. In his first season with the Eagles he started off hot piling up 6 sacks in his first 7 games as an Eagle. Unfortunately Kearse did not register a single sack after Thanksgiving, and his production lessened each year after that.

In 2006 “the Phreak” suffered a devastating knee injury in an overtime loss to the Giants. Kearse came back in 2007, but was unable to regain the that explosion he had coming off the line. Mid way through the season Kearse was benched for backup DE Juqua Thomas who had been more productive than Kearse was.

Jevon still feels he can play, and will latch on to some team in the near future. The Eagles cutting him this close to free agency probably means they plan on signing another  free agent DE soon as well.
