This is just off the wire from KFFL:
Eagles | Team has deal in place with Samuel
Fri, 29 Feb 2008 08:42:57 -0800ComcastSportsNet.com reports the Philadelphia Eagles have a deal in place with free-agent CB Asante Samuel (Patriots), according to a source. Terms of the deal have yet to be finalized.
I will update as soon as I have more info.
UPDATE!
Sporting News is also reporting that this is a done deal. They even have some contract figures.
The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to sign cornerback Asante Samuel, according to several reports.
The deal is expected to be worth $47.2 million over five years, ESPN reports. Samuel had been seeking a deal worth at least $10 million a year.
The New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers also were rumored to be chasing Samuel. The Pro Bowler had 44 tackles and six interceptions last season with the Patriots — one for a touchdown.
Samuel was visiting the Eagles’ practice facility on Friday. The deal reportedly was pending Samuel passing a physical.

This is awesome news! What a huge move by the front office. Despite having two solid CBs, the Birds pounce on the best available free agent on the market. There are rumors of a possible Lito Sheppard trade, and I will stay on the look out for any news of that.
UPDATE! Asante Samuel officially signs with Eagles! Deal is 6 years worth $57 Million.
What an exciting day. Early this morning(around 5 am) I woke up to news that the Birds had struck it big by signing Samuel. All day I was almost in disbelief, until I saw Samuel holding up an Eagles jersey at his press conference. The joy I feel right now, is hard to contain.
The Eagles always look to target premier free agents that can make an impact on the team, and they found a great one in Asante Samuel. I will get more information soon!

Wow. Now you have TWO star players who know how to choke in the Superbowl.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:31 amThey would also have the best secondary in the NFL with Samuel. So much for your Eagles can’t find great free agents theory.

February 29th, 2008 at 11:17 amI still think you guys need another receiver, even with the best secondary in the NFL.

February 29th, 2008 at 12:07 pmThere you go then - if he stays healthy, the Eagles have a real shot, even in that division.

February 29th, 2008 at 2:30 pmUh, let’s have Assante play a few snaps for the Eagles before we christen this a good move. The Kearse signing seemed like a great move when they signed him. So I don’t think my theory is out the window. I never said they don’t get star free agents; I said that when they get star free agents, it blows up in their face. Time will tell. I have to conceed that if you guys get Samuel and a healthy Javon Walker I will be unhappy and your team will start getting much scarier.
February 29th, 2008 at 5:37 pmIt’s a good signing but I don’t think it is going to improve the team a whole lot. What you need is a Star wide out like Roy Williams or Larry Fitzgerald. If you got either of those guys with Samuel for Kevin Kold to throw to this year, I will be a bit concerned. Our division is truly shaping up to be tops in the NFL again.
