According to Adam Schefter of NFL network, free agent DT/FB Dan Klecko met with the Birds today. You can catch his report at the end of this short video.
I was wondering what the Eagles would do at FB, now that Thomas Tapeh is gone, but I never came up with the idea of signing Dan Klecko to replace him. This news is very odd to me, because Klecko has primarily played DT throughout his NFL career. Usually Klecko only lined up at FB in goal line packages, and I am not sure he would be very effective as the teams full time FB. Klecko did catch a huge touch down pass in the ’06 playoffs, but he would not be a guy you would pass the football too often.
As a DT he has 3 sacks in five years, which is not very good. The Eagles need a backup DT, but I don’t think this is really a great option. I don’t think I would like this move very much, and I really do not understand the logic behind signing Dan Klecko. The best thing I can think of, is he has won 3 Super Bowls with the Colts and Patriots. That has to count for something

UPDATE! Eagles Sign Dan KleckoAdam Schefter is reporting that the Eagles inked Klecko to a one year deal today. Klecko is expected to compete with Jason Davis to be the teams starting full back. Klecko is also considered a very good special teamer, and has mainly played defensive tackle during his career.>>Eagles to Add Versatile Klecko (Scout.com)
UPDATE! Klecko Signs Two Year Deal
PE.com has finally reported the Klecko signing, and it turns out to be a two year deal instead of one. Klecko knows that he has to work to make this team, and admits that he is somewhat raw at FB.
“It’s going to be a lot of hard work changing my mentality to the offensive side of the ball,” said Klecko at his introductory press conference. “We’ll see how it goes from there. It’s going to be an experiment for me too.”
The first thing Klecko needs to do is drop some serious weight. He is listed at 275, but he looks like he could weigh about 280-290. Ideally you figure he needs to play around 260 so he has to do a lot of cardio to do this off season.
We’ll see how he things are going for Klecko in training camp.
