Donovan McNabb Calls For Help Now

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb gave a brief interview on ESPN’s Sports Center today. He talked about the potential of getting Chad Johnson, the upcoming NFL draft, and Madden ’09. Most of his answers were the usual politically correct statements, but one thing he said really stuck out to me.

McNabb said that he did not want the team to draft for the future, and he wanted them to draft for now. Donovan knows his window of opportunity is closing, and he wants to win now. That sounds like a pretty direct message Donovan is sending to the Eagles front office. This call for help is a familiar one, as Donovan asked for playmakers before the start of free agency. We can just sit here and hope that he will actually get some help.

Here is the video of the entire interview, plus a short report on Chad Johnson from Chris Mortenson.

UPDATE! McNabb does another interview on NFL Live

Donovan did another interview yesterday on ESPN, but this one was with the NFL Live show. McNabb was asked the same basic questions, but NFL Live did a “state of the franchise” type of discussion, and then did a draft needs segment with draft “experts” Todd McShay and Mel Kiper.

Seems kind of strange.  D-Mac begs for play-makers, then expects an early draft-choice to become an instant play-maker.  I’ve said it often:  a great qb can make a good receiver look great.  a great receiver cannot make a good qb look great.  we’ve got good receivers.  we just need a playmaker under center to make them look great.

thanks for the comment dwight. i think mac ha sno choice but to ask for them to draft him a wr, because they failed to land him one in free agency this year. i agree that a good qb makes his wrs better, but it is tough to make jason avant, and greg lewis look good. they need to get a wr somewhere in this draft. hopefully in the top 3 rounds.

So you’re suggesting the Eagles got to the Super Bowl on the backs of Freddie Mitchell and Todd Pinkston? Balderdash. A great WR can help his QB far more than a great QB can help a WR. It doesn’t matter if every pass is perfectly thrown if the clod can’t catch it. To put it another way, Tim Brown or Todd Marinovich? The Eagles have good WRs, they do not have anybody outside that worries defensive coordinators. If you can stop BWest, you can stop that offense. "Need a playmaker under center." Pfft.

tracer is right. a qb can barel;y make a wr look better. a wr can make a crappy qb like tom brady or tony romo look way better than they r. mcnabb is easily the best qb in the nfl and if he had a weapon he would be known as better than the overrated manning or brady
