Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb gave a brief interview on ESPN’s Sports Center today. He talked about the potential of getting Chad Johnson, the upcoming NFL draft, and Madden ’09. Most of his answers were the usual politically correct statements, but one thing he said really stuck out to me.
McNabb said that he did not want the team to draft for the future, and he wanted them to draft for now. Donovan knows his window of opportunity is closing, and he wants to win now. That sounds like a pretty direct message Donovan is sending to the Eagles front office. This call for help is a familiar one, as Donovan asked for playmakers before the start of free agency. We can just sit here and hope that he will actually get some help.
Here is the video of the entire interview, plus a short report on Chad Johnson from Chris Mortenson.
UPDATE! McNabb does another interview on NFL Live
Donovan did another interview yesterday on ESPN, but this one was with the NFL Live show. McNabb was asked the same basic questions, but NFL Live did a “state of the franchise” type of discussion, and then did a draft needs segment with draft “experts” Todd McShay and Mel Kiper.
