It looks like the Birds found themselves a developmental QB prospect. Casey Hansen signed a 3 year contract yesterday. Now this article says Hansen will have a shot to compete for a job, but in reality unless somebody gets hurt or traded the QB situation is pretty much set in Philadelphia.
Donovan McNabb is obviously not going anywhere despite what Dan from The Landry Hat says. Kevin Kolb was a high draft pick who the Eagles love as the QB of the future, and A.J. Feeley is a solid veteran who knows the offense well.
Hansen does have some potential though, and could be a great candidate for the practice squad. I am not going to pretend that I watch a lot of Norfolk State games, but I am hearing some good things about this kid.
“We’re excited for him,” Norfolk State coach Pete Adrian said. “The hardest thing to do is go into camp and get a look. He’s got great size and a good arm.”
It is somewhat alarming that in 11 starts last year Hansen only threw 9 touchdowns and had 8 interceptions. Norfolk State must run the rock a lot.
An interesting article dubbed Hansen as ‘NSU’s Great White Hope’, for being a strong armed white QB at a prodominantly black college. “Sometimes I feel a little awkward, but that’s just like a black player who went to an all-white school.”
We’ll see how he Hansen does in training camp.
