Disabled And Special Needs Kids Need Your Help

This is not sports related, but it is life related. This foundation is trying to kick off a fund raiser to help better support kids with special needs. The Pickens County Board of Disability and Special Needs is a non profit organization that serves the people here in Pickens, South Carolina with life long disabilities that are related to Mental Retardation or related disabilities (Cerebral palsy, Spina  Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, Arthrogryposis, Down Syndrome, etc)

Our Consumers (Clients we serve) have desires and goals just like everyone else. One of their goals is to build a gymnasium so they can play basketball, have a place to walk or roll (wheelchairs) around a track, as they please, and get their exercise. We have had bake sales, yard sales, car washes, penny drives, and whatever we could do to raise the money to fund their gym. For fives years we have attempted all these and many more fundraisers but have not even came close to a percent of what it cost to build a gym. Some of our consumers are in wheelchairs or use walkers and canes. We have some who walk independently, but due to their disabilities and some of the medications that they take, they can’t have long exposure to the sun. The consumers feel that with a gym they could do some of the things that most people take for granted.

We have lost a great number of consumers in the past five years who never got the chance to see their dream come true. We want to stop that from happening again and this is where we could really use your help! We want to have a silent auction this summer. We would like to get your help by donating some autograph merchandise or any other items that could help make this dream come to life.
