3 More Rookies Ink

Corner back Jack Ikegwuono, LB Joe Mays, and OT King Dunlap have all agreed to terms on a 4 year deal. All three of these guys are very interesting, because they have future project written all over them.

Fourth round pick Ikegwuono tore his ACL preparing for the NFL combine, and his stock plummeted because of it. The Eagles knew he was potentially a first round pick before this injury, and saw him as a great value pick at the end of round 4. He won’t play in 2008, but five years from now everybody might be talking about what a steal this pick was.

Joe Mays is an undersized MLB who played big at a small school. With the numbers at LB right now he will have a tough time making the final roster, but you could see him be a great candidate for the practice squad. Also don’t forget the Eagles tend to stash away “injured” players on IR a lot. If he does make this team it will be because of his ability to contribute on special teams.

King Dunlap is another player who’s draft stock fell really far. After his junior year he was considered as the 2nd best LT in college football behind Jake Long. Then he had a disastrous Senior year where his poor play, and injuries forced Auburn to start a true freshman in his place. Even though he had a terrible Senior year, the Eagles knew there was talent there, and there was no risk taking a shot with him in the 7th round. The Eagles have a large crowd on the offensive line, but he has an outside shot of making the team. Even if he does not, expect him to be brought on to the practice squad.

The Birds now have 7 of 10 draft picks signed.
