With the Eagles off, I gladly took full advantage of my DirecTV Sunday Ticket package. Firmly planted on my couch I was able to flip from matchup to matchup to catch all the action. Here’s a few things that stood out from today’s slate of games.
- Nothing bothers the New York Giants. Plax shoots himself but Big Blue continues to dominate. As long as Burress doesn’t shoot Eli the G-Men might be “Super” again.
- Jeff Garcia just wins games. None of us will forget Garcia’s 2006 heroics. He won’t earn style points but he’s leading the Bucs back to the playoffs
- Lost in the McNabb benching a week ago was the fact that the Ravens are pretty good. They did what the Eagles could not in crushing the Bengals 34-3.
- The Bills are an inept offensive team. How they scored 54 against Kansas City last Sunday is a mystery.
- Check out Peyton Manning’s final numbers: 15-21, 125, 0 TD, 2 INT. Did someone not tell him he was playing the Browns?
- It’s fun to watch Drew Brees toss the ball all over the yard but the Saints cannot beat good teams. Hmm? A team that can’t and won’t run not winning games. Sound familiar?
- Browns quarterback Derek Anderson looks lost. I can’t believe this is the same cat who threw for 29 touchdowns last season. Lucky for Derek, his 2008 nightmare will end due to a knee injury.
- The Cadillac is finally out of the shop. Cadillac Williams scored his first touchdown since tearing up his knee fourteen months ago.
- The Packers miss Brett Favre. Personally, I think Green Bay made the right move in handing the keys to Aaron Rodgers, but at 5-7 I’m certain the players and front office are wondering “what if?”
- The Broncos stopped tackling the Jets‘ Thomas Jones and he waltzed into the endzone. Jones landed on a Bronco defender never touching the ground. Apparently, Denver doesn’t subscribe to the “play to the whistle” theory.
- The Chiefs’ defense has hit rock-bottom. Eagles’ castoff Rocky Boiman is their starting middle linebacker. On a brighter note, Tyler Thigpen could be a keeper.
- The Falcons‘ Matt Ryan continues to impress. I can’t remember seeing a rookie quarterback play as well as he has this season.
- Fifteen starting quarterbacks failed to throw a touchdown pass.
- Can we stop all the nonsensical talk about Matt Cassel being better than Tom Brady. Against the Steelers, a real defense, here’s what Cassel did: 19-39, 169, 0 TD, 2 INT, 2 fumbles lost. I think you know.
- Classic letdown for the Jets. A week after upsetting the Titans they get thumped by Denver 34-17.
- LaDanian Tomlinson is done. McNabb had as many yards rushing as LT this week. Doesn’t hit the hole quick enough and lacks the breakaway speed that made him one of the all-time great running backs. It was a long, successful run but it appears over.
That’s all I got. Back tomorrow to begin Giants Week.
