McNabb’s Remarks Stir Controversy

AUTHOR: Scott Tunstall | IN: Breaking News | COMMENTS: 2 Comments |

It’s that time of year in Philadelphia. Finger-pointing time. Donovan McNabb just can’t stay out of the headlines. You would think a guy who just quarterbacked his team to a fourth NFC Championship loss would choose his words wisely when speaking on 610-WIP. I guess McNabb didn’t get the memo that blaming the defense publicly is never a good thing to do.

According to this Inquirer article, Don pointed a not-so-subtle finger at the defense for not being able to stop Kurt Warner and the Cardinals’ running game on the game-winning drive. He’s right. The defense couldn’t stop Arizona and played perhaps its worst game of the season. However, to say that on public airwaves is just stupid.

What McNabb neglected to mention was the four consecutive incompletions he threw to end the game. I guess that had nothing to do with losing the game.

Ex-Eagle defenders Hugh Douglas and Jeremiah Trotter have never been shy about expressing their opinions, especially when it comes to their former teammate. Here’s what Douglas had to say about Don’s comments:

“When you break that team code, it hits home. When you call someone your teammate, you’re calling them your brother. Be loyal to your teammates. It’s easy to point fingers. Brian Dawkins is a team player. He would never do that.”

Uh oh! Think that’s bad? Well, it gets even better. Here’s what Trotter had to say:

“In this league, you’re gonna get put in positions where you gotta come through at specific times,” Trotter said. “And I always say the great players come through in great moments, and he hasn’t prove to come through in those times when the team really needs him.”

Geesh! You can tell it’s February in Philly. When do pitchers and catchers report?

To listen to all of Trotter’s colorful comments go here. It’s one helluva interview. None of the current Eagles defensive players have rebutted McNabb’s statements, but Brian Dawkins kinda blamed the defense last week for being young and mistake prone.

Back to Don. If McNabb wants to retire an Eagle like he claims, stories like this aren’t going to help his cause. You would think after ten years he would have learned to not play the media’s game. Evidently, he hasn’t.

I love my Eagles…but Donovan is believing his own press!  Last time I checked the quarterback is supposed to be the leader of the team. If I’m not right someone please correct me! Westbrook took them far and Dawkins encouragement on the sidelines kept them going.
What Rush Limbaugh got fired for on ESPN other commentators have agreed with…yet they still have their jobs?????
