Houshmandzadeh Interested in Eagles?

I don’t take much stock in February rumors, but Bengals possible free agent wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh is definitely looking hard at the Eagles. Sheil Kapadia talks about Housh’s ESPN interview over on his Moving The Chains blog.

I’ll let you read the full article, but I found this quote from T.J. very telling. When speaking about his 12 catch, 149 yard, 1 TD performance in the dreaded 13-13 tie, he said this:

“Did you watch the Eagles and the Bengals game during the season? I was just giving Andy Reid, I was giving him an interview in person,” Houshmandzadeh said. “That’s all I was doing. I was giving him a three-month interview ahead of time. That’s all.”

Don’t get too excited. T.J. is making the rounds talking up all his potential suitors. I’m certain Reid is pleased with the receivers he has. Ahem. Anyway, free agency begins on the 27th of this month. Cross your fingers Housh isn’t franchised and that the Birds make a play for him.

Big Red likes linemen. There is only one available come Feb. 27th that will improve the defense.  Look for Albert Haynesworth to be  holding up an Eagle Jersey the first day of Free Agency. He immediately improves the defense against the run and the pass. He had 8.5 sacks in 14 games last season and should have 4-5 years of productivity left in him. Gross most likely will be signed before the deadline, making the Eagles have to use one of there first round picks on an offensive tackle.  Look for Tra Thomas to resign with Eagles. Eagles really need a tight end and running back. If they can not work out a trade for Tony G. look for the Eagles to use one of their first round picks on a tight end. The Eagles could actually surprise us and draft two running backs in this upcoming April draft. Westbrook's need for surgery is a big concern.  We need to win now (2004)!!

They came close to getting Gonzo at the trade deadline. Asking price was too high. It'll be even higher now. I'd rather see them try to grab a tight end like Brandon Pettigrew in the draft. Gross is a possibility, especially of they don't bring back Runyan.

Meh.  I'd rather they focus on other areas.  Hous is a solid WR but hes not Larry Fitzgerald or Randy Moss; who they made a run for last offseason.  I think trying to pry Tony Gonzalez away from K.C. or throwing some $$ at Jordan Gross, since I think Carolina will franchise Peppers, is a better plan of attack.
