Peppers Tagged

The Panthers have slapped the franchise tag on disgruntled defensive end Julius Peppers. This came after they inked Jordan Gross to a multi-year contract. Peppers will carry a $16.683 million price. Money aside, Peppers wants out of Carolina. Unless they can deal him, he would be forced to play the 2009 season with zero security. A long-term deal with the ‘Cats seems unlikely.

I’m surprised by this move. Obviously, the Panthers want to get some compensation, but it’s clear Peppers has no desire to play for them. If they can’t pull off a trade, they will have one perturbed player to deal with heading into training camp. Can you say major distraction?

Isn’t this time of year great? I wonder what will happen next.
