Dawkins is a Bronco

AUTHOR: Scott Tunstall | IN: Breaking News | COMMENTS: 4 Comments |

Oops. I guess I posted too quickly. Alas, Brian Dawkins‘ is a Denver Bronco. Adam Schefter has reported Dawkins has inked a five-year, $17 million deal with the Broncos. Five years?? No wonder the Eagles weren’t interested. I love Dawk, but there is no way I’d give him that kind of deal. Apparently, the deal can be voided after two years, which seems likely.

So, all the speculation is finally confirmed. I wish Dawkins good luck. He was a true warrior for the Birds and will be missed. But I’ve watched guys like Reggie White and Keith Jackson walk out the door. It’s a cliche, but it really is part of the business. Onward and upward. Now the Birds must find a replacment – on the field – for Dawk. Is Quintin Demps ready? Or will they go after someone like James Sanders? Stay tuned.

disgusted. you cannot let your leader and heart of the team go after 13 years with him. should have signed him, no matter what the costs. sad day.

It is a sad day, Jon. But are you really surprised? This is what the Eagles do, like it or not. I think the front office was a little overconfident thinking they could re-sign him. Then Denver blew them away with their offer. It sucks, yes. It’s cool to be upset. But this team has a lot of talent. I think Sheldon, Mikell and Bradley can lead this defense. It won’t be easy, but they are more than capable. The bottom line is Dawk was not going to last forever. I’d rather see him go a year early, than late.

I agree with Scott, even if it hurts.  Dawkins has been there so long, it just is hard to believe he’ll not be in midnight green next year.  But, the comment about going a year early rather than late is dead on – remember TO running by him during the first game last season – sickening….I love him and will be in Canton when he gets inducted to the HOF (and he will) and also wish him the best, but this is the NFL (Not For Long)…
