McNabb’s Remarks Stir Controversy
It’s that time of year in Philadelphia. Finger-pointing time. Donovan McNabb just can’t stay out of the headlines. You would think a guy who just quarterbacked his team to a fourth NFC Championship loss would choose his words wisely when speaking on 610-WIP. I guess McNabb didn’t get the memo that blaming the defense publicly is never a good thing to do. According to this Inquirer article, Don pointed a not-so-subtle finger at the defense for not being able to stop Kurt Warner and the Cardinals’ running game on the game-winning drive. He’s right. The defense couldn’t stop Arizona and [...]
Evaluating the Eagles: Part VII
The strength of the 2008 Eagles was the secondary. Two Pro Bowlers and one more than deserving made the back four fun to watch. Let’s hand out some grades. Secondary: Asante Samuel – After inking a 6 year, $57 million dollar deal, expectations were high for the former Patriot. Asante lived-up to the hype and then some. Had a team best 4 interceptions, one for a TD, during the regular season. Added 22 passes defended. Really earned his cash in the playoffs. Two INTs – one a pick-six – in three games. Got beat-up by Larry Fitzgerald in the NFC [...]
Evaluating the Eagles: Part VI
After a brief respite to cover the Super Bowl, I’m back to finish up the 2008 evaluations. An area of concern for the Eagles entering the 2008 season was the linebacker position. Was there enough experience? Could the youth movement help a suspect run defense? In the end, linebacker turned into a strength for the Birds. Let’s take a look. Linebackers: Stewart Bradley – The second-year backer from Nebraska settled in at MLB nicely in ’08. Finished with 108 tackles, 1 sack, 1 FF and 1 INT. Added 6 passes defended. Was key to the drastic improvement of the Eagles [...]
Best Super Bowl Commercials
Normally, I could give a crap about Super Bowl ads, especially when the game itself was so good. That being said, a few commercials separated themselves from a pack largely comprised of garbage. There appeared to be a trend toward violence which I found quite amusing. Perhaps the boys and girls on Madison Avenue were attempting to reflect the physical nature of football? Who the F knows. Here are three that made me laugh: Doritos: Snow Globe Hulu.com with Alec Baldwin Coke Zero with Troy Polamalu
Fantastic Finish in Tampa
Quite a game last night, eh? Super Bowl XLIII goes to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Congrats to Steel City on their record sixth Lombardi trophy. It wasn’t the best Big Game ever, but it was damn close. It went back and forth. There were late game heroics. And there was heartache for the Arizona Cardinals. In other words, it was everything the Super Bowl is supposed to be, but often times isn’t. Things looked bleak for the Cardinals at halftime after Kurt Warner threw a pick-six to James Harrison in the waning seconds of the second quarter. They would trail 20-7 [...]
Super Bowl XLIII: Who Ya Got?
In a few short hours the 2008 season will officially come to an end. Sorry, I don’t count the ridiculous exhibition game played next weekend. Tonight, either the Steelers or Cardinals will embrace the Lombardi Trophy and be crowned Super Bowl Champions. So, which team will it be? Arizona took apart an excellent Eagles defense two Sundays ago. The Birds threw many a blitz at Kurt Warner, but the ageless wonder was not shaken. He and super-stud wideout Larry Fitzgerald have been unstoppable this postseason. Pittsburgh boasts the #1 defense in the NFL and has had two full weeks to [...]
