Draft Profiles: Jared Cook

jcook1Jared Cook: TE, Junior – South Carolina

Height/Weight: 6’5″, 250 lbs

Career Stats: 73 receptions, 1107 yards, 7 TDs

40-Time: 4.5

Cook is a wide receiver trapped in a tight end’s body. He’s fast, has great hands and is a downfield playmaker. His athletic ability is not in question. Wasn’t asked to block in Steve Spurrier’s offense. Needs to get stronger and learn in-line techniques. His eye-popping performance at the Combine earned him a Workout Warrior rep. Cook is the ultimate tease. Is he a football player or just an incredible athlete? Probably a second round pick.

Best attribute: Vertical threat with tremendous talent.

Weakness: Poor blocker and route runner.

Reminds me of: Alge Crumpler. Has all the tools to be a starting tight end, but he will have to work for it.

Why he should be an Eagle: If he’s coachable, he’s worth the risk. However, the stench of L.J. Smith still lingers, so he could be too big a gamble.

Do You Think the Eagles Will Draft Cook?

I'm with you, Harris. I like guys who show they can cut and adjust.

Guys who are poor route runners always make me nervous. You'd think they could learn, but it's not as if "Go seven yards and turn left" is horribly complicated and they never mastered the skill in college. Now you're asking them to run routes while adjusting to the defense at full speed. Bad juju.
