Percy Harvin is grabbing a lot of headlines as the draft approaches. His speed and playmaking ability have many comparing him to DeSean Jackson. There are also rumors regarding possible failed drug tests and some team execs are on record as saying they would steer clear of Harvin completely.
Then there is the other Gator wideout: Louis Murphy. At 6′2″, 205 and a 4.4 40-time, Murphy has the size and speed GMs and coaches drool over. According to Thomas George over at NFL.com, the Eagles are one of those teams salivating. They reportedly invited Murphy in for a private workout.
Scouts and draft experts call Murphy a gifted but raw athlete capable of making plays down field. He can get separation and isn’t afraid to operate over the middle. The fact that he played in a spread attack in college has other talent evaluators shying away from him. Let’s be real, Gator receivers haven’t exactly been tearing it up in the NFL. Guys like Dallas Baker, Chad Jackson, Jabar Gaffney and Travis Taylor have all been disappointments.
I’ve never been a fan of Florida receivers, but Murphy’s size, speed and willingness to catch in traffic makes him intriguing.

scott, i have’nt been here for a while, so i not up to speed on eagle news as of late. so i got a question for you; do the eagles take a rb, wr, or D with that first pick, and then what do they come back with and grab with the second pick.? i get together with my buds for a big draft party every year. we have a dynasty league and the draft picks are asigned to our teams with our draft pick order reflecting the nfl draft pick order. well i pick 6 this year and i have it projected that possibly i could land moreno the rb at my spot if the eagles take a shot at him???? not sure, but i’ve heard that it’s a possibility? love to hear you guys’ thoughts on the matter. i know you scott as a good eagle fan, but also as a honest football critic. i respect your opinion as an eagle fan. one of my good buddies is an eaglefan, and we’ve been goin back and forth this off season; he thinks RB? or D-line?
First of all, where the hell you been, dave? Making the FanSided rounds I imagine.
This is a tough one. For weeks I’ve been leaning toward RB at 21. I think the only guy worth taking at that spot is Moreno. However, I don’t think he’ll be there. For some reason, I feel Denver or San Diego will grab him before the Birds pick. They could still take Donald Brown, but 21 seems early.
So, I believe they will go defense. I don’t think D-line but perhaps linebacker or DB. To be honest, it’s really hard to predict what Reid will do. I still think there is a good chance they package some of their 12 picks to move up in the first round, probably to grab an elite offensive tackle. It is the one position that is currently unsettled on the roster. They have starters everywhere else.
thank you scott, your info is greatly app. i will try to stop by more often here soon. my work schedule changed recently leaving me working nites and sleeping days. glad thats over and i can get down to business again. i told my boss we got to get this stuff done at least a week before the nfl draft. i can’t go out there unarmed. he just said we’ll get ya there man. so i’m offically back in town. my eagle buddy says moreno goes to diego and they ride LT one more year and cut him loose next year, and then they got there young franchise back with all the other young talent on that team. i think your both right on that.
