After watching the press conference and some highlights of Peters, I love the deal. As I mentioned, I think Juan will keep him motivated. I'm with you Anthony, I can't stand people who call the Eagles cheap or stupid. They just invested $100 million in bookend tackles. They added a legit fullback, a ballhawk safety and they will address RB an TE in the draft. Again, I'm fine with the receivers because I think DeSean is going to be a damn good playmaker. If they score big this next weekend this might go down as the best offseason the franchise has ever had.

Mitch - I can see your posts fine. Not sure why the adds are covering it on your side.

(reposting, because -at least on my computer - the ad obscures the right half of the article)

This is a terrific class of centers; any one of five guys (Unger, Wood, Luigs, Caldwell) would be the number one center in most draft classes. They are all exceptionally smart, hard workers, and good athletes. The thing that sets Mack apart from the others is strength, base, and drive. He is able to hold his ground and drive block against NFL-Sized DTs and Nose-Tackles in a way that the others can’t.

I appreciate your comments, and I wouldn’t give up our future draft picks easily. My logic is that both Pettigrew and Mack are the best players of their type to come out of college in this five-year window, and they both play positions that have an 8-10 year horizon. In Pettigrew’s case, if he is not the best TE, he is the most complete and best blocking TE. When a team has a realistic opportunity to get players of this caliber, I think they need to go for it.

I’d like a top receiver, too; but with a line of Pettigrew, Andrews x 2, Mack, Herremans, and Peters, with Weavers at fullback the defense will have to play 8-9 in the box on every play. As mobile as this line would be, screens would be devastating. With this offensive line run-blocking and protecting McNabb, our present wideouts will be pro-bowlers.

I am a big fan of this move, regardless of his antics last year. Unfortunately, that type of scenario happens all the time in the NFL. The offensive line now has at least 3 pro bowl level players and no one older than 29. That's a hell of an overhaul job. I kill the Brds quite often, but they quietly have had an aggressive and productive offseason. Yes, I still would love a receiver but if it doesn't happen it won't crush them. I just think they lack a dominant offensive weapon. They have "nice, solid" players, but no dominant ones. Maybe Westbrook stays healthy and has one more great year in him. It's funny, because many fans yell and scream that the Eagles are idiots and wonder what the hell they are doing. But, people should at least give some credit. There are a lot of teams that don't do much in the offseason, yet the Eagles in recent years have paid tons of money to bring in the best RT on the market in Runyan, tons of money for Kearse, traded for TO, signed the biggest free agent to a huge contract last year with Samuel, and this year have added a fullback, signed the best RT available and swung a trade for a pro bowl LT and paid him a ton of money. We may not always agree with their decisions, but fans should at least realize that the Eagles do spend money and they are more aggressive than most teams in the NFL. Not to mention, what were most Eagles fans saying they needed to do in the offseason? They were saying the Birds needed a RB, TE, Tackles, FB, and maybe a receiver. Well, the Eagles signed two tackles, a fullback, all indications point to them drafting a RB, and they have been rumored to at least be interested in trading for a receiver. I don't think they are as dumb as many fans like to argue. I am happy with the offseason and there is still a long way to go.
