Damn! I really thought the Eagles might go for Gonzo, but alas, it’s not to be. FOX insider Jay Glazer has reported the Chiefs have dealt the future Hall of Fame tight end to the dirty South Falcons for a 2010 second-round pick. A 2010 second? Geesh. I would have made this deal in a second! Great move for the Falcons. Matt Ryan’s fantasy stock just went WAY up. I assume this means Atlanta is out of the Brandon Pettigrew sweepstakes. Ugh. Considering the source, I hesitate to even broach this doozy, but according to PFT, the Eagles could be shopping Shawn Andrews. On Monday, Les Bowen suggested Shawn “might” be unhappy with his contract due in large part to the money handed his brother Stacy and Jason Peters. I’m going to try something a little different in the these last few days before one of the most eagerly anticipated Eagles‘ draft weekends in recent memory. I’ve blathered endlessly over the last few weeks about what I think Reid and Co. may or may not do while on the clock. Well, I’m tired of listening to just my own thoughts. It’s time to gain a different perspective from a couple of other die-harders from Eagles Nation. Ran across this nugget on Moving the Chains about the Eagles offering a third-round pick for Tony G. According to the report, the Chiefs want a second rounder. Didn’t the Birds go down this road at the 2008 trade deadline? If accurate, they must have a hankering for Gonzo. Interesting? Tony would definitely qualify as an offensive “weapon.” I doubt Reid would hand over a second, but you never know.

What will the Eagles do draft weekend? That’s the million-dollar question fans want answered. With the acquisition of Jason Peters, the potential moves the Birds might make have been reduced. Gone are the 28th and 121st selections. However, as we all know, Andy Reid is fond of trading up, down and all around the draft board. With 10 total picks, the brain trust still has plenty of room to maneuver. So, what will they do? Amidst the latest soap opera involving Sheldon Brown and the perceived “disrespect” being shown by the Eagles, I was able to squeeze in a draft preview interview. Brad Gagnon, over at thescore.com, was gracious enough to let me discuss the Eagles’ draft plans this weekend. We chatted about the recent acquisition of Jason Peters and how it might affect the front office strategy. Uh oh! Here we go again. Sheldon Brown wants to be traded. Pro Football Weekly just reported the Eagles‘ response to Brown’s trade demands: “It’s very unfortunate and counterproductive that Sheldon has chosen to go public with his feelings about his situation. After thorough evaluation by himself and discussions with his family and agents, he chose to accept an extension of his rookie contract early that provided his family financial security for the rest of his life. It finally happened. The big move we were all anticipating. I’m sure the haters (you know who you are) are still whining because it didn’t involve Braylon or Boldin or Ocho Cinco. Get over it. I’ll take one of the best left tackles, if not the best, over a wide receiver any day. Especially, when you consider the Eagles had no stable answer to protect McNabb‘s blindside prior to last Friday. Could Andrews or Herremans have slid out to fill the position? It took a little while, but it’s a done deal. Jason Peters is an Eagle. The birds dealt a first (28th) and fourth-round pick in next weekend’s draft and a sixth-round selection in 2010 to acquire the Bills‘ petulant left tackle. Late tonight, they finalized a 6-year contract, which will satisfy Peters. Well, I guess the Birds have solved their issue at tackle. Let’s hope they are getting the 2007 version, not the 2008. According to the dynamic duo of Sal Paolantonio and John Clayton, Bills left tackle Jason Peters is on his way to Philly to meet with Eagles’ brass. If these reports are accurate, it would likely cost the Birds at least one of their two first-round picks. Then they have to hammer out new contract with the disgruntled Peters. I’m not a huge fan of Peters. His motivations seem to be guided by money and money alone. Is he really a team guy? I hope Reid and Co. have done their homework on him.
