Dan Klecko Got a Big Fat Raise

I stumbled across a stunning revelation while perusing FOX Sports yesterday. The Eagles team salary chart appears to be slightly out of whack. Notice anything weird?

Eagles 2008 Salaries

Rk Player Salary (US$)
1 Asante Samuel $14,145,000
2 Dan Klecko $10,641,720
3 Stacy Andrews $7,457,520
4 Donovan McNabb $6,301,920
5 Brian Westbrook $5,650,480

And fans think the Birds are cheap. I guess when you play both fullback and defensive tackle, you deserve a hefty raise. I hope the rest of the team doesn’t discover this little nugget. We have enough contract issues to deal with in Eagles Nation. We don’t need any more. Wink. Wink.

That’s LTBE stuff, incentives he never met that they carried over to this year.

Eric is right. I was asking this guy, Bryce, who does an independent eagles salary cap website (http://www.eaglescap.com/) about this last year. He said, “Klecko has a 10M Likely To Be Earned (LTBE) incentive that will never actually be earned. The eagles pick certain players every year to write impossible incentives into their contracts. There is a rule in the CBA that says if an incentive is written in after the start of the regular season, it is automatically considered LTBE. LTBE incentives automatically count against the cap. Since this 10 million counts against the cap but won’t be earned, the eagles end up getting a cap credit onto next year’s salary cap for this amount. This is how they carry unused cap room from one year to the next.”

Eric- I realize it’s probably unused cap space from the year before. I just found it amusing ;o)

I figured you did, I’m just clarifying for anyone that comes in that’s not aware. :)

There are too many Eagles’ fans that overreact immediately over all these FO money issues.
