While listening to Eagles Live over at PE.com today, Dave Spadaro recalled a run-in at yesterday’s minicamp between the Big Kid Shawn Andrews and a “reporter” who wrote a piece last month suggesting Shawn might want a new contract after Jason Peters and Stacy Andrews received huge deals.
I remember reading the article. It was by Birds’ beat writer Les Bowen.
According to Spuds, Andrews pulled [Bowen] aside and expressed his displeasure for a speculative article written on April 20 regarding his contract situation. Here’s Bowen’s post from Eagletarian. Shawn has always been slightly unstable – I’d leave him alone.
More notes from day two of minicamp:
- Welcome back Jim Johnson!! He looked good and I wish him the best in his recovery. He has a long way to go, but so far, so good.
- Johnson spoke glowingly about Quintin Demps. He envisions Demps as a Pro Bowl safety in the future. Jim isn’t fond of hyperbole, so that’s high praise for Quintin.
- Johnson referred to the cornerback situation as the best it’s ever been. Four starting caliber players.
- Marty Mornhinweg talked up Reggie Brown. Trade bait?
- I like special teams coordinator Ted Daisher. His voice was shot after yelling all through practice. The guy will get in your face if you screw up. Nice!
Check out this article on CBSSports.com by Clark Judge. Here’s my favorite part:
“The ammunition that McNabb said he needed to reach another Super Bowl he now has, with Maclin a grenade waiting to be pulled.”
A grenade. Great analogy.
