McNabb Speaks and Something About a Blogging Trailer

Posted by: Scott Tunstall

So, the elusive Donovan McNabb finally uttered some words over the weekend. Naturally, the media was all atwitter (anxious, not the social networking bonanza). Donny Mac spoke briefly in regards to his contract status. He elected to instead steer the discussion toward his Kid’s Clinic charity. Good for Don.

I don’t really understand why some fans and most media types are up in arms about McNabb’s silence this offseason. Personally, I’m glad he’s removed himself from the front lines. For a guy who has taken a certain degree of heat for being a so-called “company man” and always doing and saying the right thing when the cameras are rolling, a vacation from the firing squad was long overdue.

Obviously, this makes life difficult for the beat writers. Their obligatory (and tiresome) deconstructing of 5’s every word between February and late July isn’t necessary. We all know how DMac is feeling these days. He wants a re-worked deal and some assurance that he’s the man for the foreseeable future. I believe he’ll get both before the games that matter are played. Rumors, like the ones buzzing recently, have a way of turning into facts.

McNabb will talk when he’s good and ready. Until such time, I think we can survive just fine.

Check out this interesting nugget via Peter King’s latest MMQB:

“The Philadelphia Eagles will make the instant-news world we live in very happy this summer. They’re installing a Blogging Trailer adjacent to the training camp practice fields at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., for use during and immediately after practice for bloggers covering camp and for beat guys filing to instant-news blogs.”

This is a big friggin’ deal in my opinion. The Birds must realize the impact bloggers are having on the NFL, but to allow basement dwelling geeks like myself to co-mingle with professional newspaper scribes is unheard of, right?

I have many questions: How big is said trailer? Can just anyone claiming to be a blogger enter? Will the beat writers and “legit” press have first dibs? Could a potential shoving match break out between myself and Les Bowen over seating inside the trailer? I need answers, people!

Safe to assume, we haven’t heard the last of this mysterious Blogging Trailer. Oh, the times they are a changin’.
