Sal Pal and Cris Carter on Westbrook

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles, News, NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

Well, ESPN seems to have officially declared the Eagles 2009 season over. Evidently, Brian Westbrook‘s ankle injury has led Lurie, Banner and Reid to the conclusion that there is no reason to go on with the games. What’s the point? Obviously, Westbrook will be unable to contribute much of anything to the team. And if B-West can’t play, it’s time to fold up the tent on the Eagles’ dream season. If you listen to Sal Pal and Cris Carter, Westbrook should probably retire. Both talking heads pontificated about the brittle running back on the Global Sports Net yesterday. If you [...]

48 HRS in Hell

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles, NFL, Random Thoughts | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Since Wednesday afternoon, I and much of the FanSided Sports Network have been unable to access our blogs. Right about the time news of Brian Westbrook‘s impending surgery broke, WordPress (the lovely software us sports bloggers use to deliver our prolific posts) decided to take a Nate Newton-sized dump all over our computer screens. Nice, huh? Needless to say, we were unable to login to our sites. Beyond frustrating. But Zach and his team of code-breakers worked feverishly to get us back up and running. They deserve a major thanks. My job is easy. I just invent some stuff to [...]

A Cornucopia of Eagles Items

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Eagles, Free Agency, News, NFL | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The onset of OTAs has brought a plethora of Eagles related stories. So, let’s get to them, shall we. First caught wind of this last night over at Igglesblog. Those guys are always on point. Evidently, a new deal for Donny Mac is in the works. No extension, but a restructuring. Hmm. The extension will be put off “until a later date.” If this report is accurate, it seems Reid and Co. would like to provide more stability for their quarterback. Makes sense. If you’re making another serious championship run, the last thing you want is an unhappy signal caller. [...]

No-Show Sheldon

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Eagles, News, NFL | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Not surprisingly, Sheldon Brown was a no-show at the team OTA today. Brown is still playing the re-work my contract or trade me angle. To me, this is just not a story. I doubt Brown will be traded, and even if he is, big deal. Ellis Hobbs can start. Enough, already! Max Jean-Gilles also participated in the workouts; as did Stacy Andrews (although both were limited). For what it’s worth, word is DJax looked incredible in practice. I stand by my belief that DeSean will be an 1100-1200 yard receiver in 2009. The kid is just too talented not to [...]

Broken Record

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, Eagles, Free Agency, NFL | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The offseason accolades just keep pouring in for the Eagles. Alex Marvez from FOXSports.com handed the Birds his highest grade for the shrewd moves orchestrated by the Front Office. “Even this team’s notoriously grumpy fan base can’t gripe after this stellar offseason.” Hold on there, Alex. We can still complain. We’re Philly fans, bud. Marvez also trashed the Redskins offseason and referred to the DeAngelo Hall re-signing as the worst. I agree. Hall has always been overrated. He then went on to call T.O. to the Bills the best free agent signing. “Owens has looked outstanding in Buffalo’s offseason program [...]

Osi Umenyiora is in Mid-season Form

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles, NFL | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Osi Umenyiora, who didn’t play a down for the Giants in 2008, is obviously eager to get back on the field. He’s also ready to get some payback against the Eagles. Here’s what he said about players working harder after being bounced from the playoffs by Gang Green: “They should. I do — and I wasn’t on the football field,” he said. “I was on the field, but I wasn’t playing and I saw the way it ended. It was a team we should have beat and it was a team that, if the opportunity arises again, we will beat.” [...]

Coaching With the Enemy and a Word About Injuries

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles, NFL, Random Thoughts | COMMENTS: None Yet

Although unconfirmed, it appears the Eagles will add ex-Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart to the coaching staff. As of midnight Sunday night, he still hasn’t been hired. Stewart is an old pal of Andy Reid‘s from their days at Northern Arizona. Sullying the roster or coaching ranks with former Jerry Jones’ lackeys bothers me a little, but if the dude can help fill the void presently left by Jim Johnson’s absence, fine. I keep reading that Stewart will “help” the Birds gameplan for the vaunted 3-4 Dallas defense. Uh, last time I checked, the Eagles scored 60 offensive points in [...]
