The vets finally hit the field. Well, the five who weren’t sidelined with an injury did anyway. The pads are still collecting dust, but that didn’t stop the first full-squad practice from resembling a MASH unit. One name, conspicuous by his absence, was a guy who can’t afford any setbacks in ’09: The Big Kid — Shawn Andrews. He sat out due to back spasms. They are calling it minor. No such thing for a guy coming off back surgery.
In other boo boo news:
- Asante and Laws suffered hammy strains. Laws could be seen doing girlie style push-ups.
- Jason Peters got a spasm in his quad. I used to have a truck with the same problem.
- Macho sprained an ankle. Not very macho of him.
- Westy and Abiamiri rehabbed with Rick Burkholder. Brian flipped a really big tire. Is he training for the Tough Man?
Geesh. Must have been one tough morning conditioning session. All of the above were placed on the PUP list.
- In better news, I guess, Brandon Gibson returned to practice.
- Winston Justice lined up at right tackle. Let’s hope we never see that during the season.
- Reggie Brown made it through the morning without getting hurt. Amazing.
- First-round picks are beginning to ink deals, most notably Darrius Heyward-Bey of the Raiders; the first wide receiver drafted. Maybe, just maybe, this will restart the Maclin talks. Reid, rightfully so, seems perturbed.
