My grandpa used to tell me if a guy owns a bunch of cars it’s because he doesn’t really like any of them. My response to that piece of wisdom was always, “Maybe he’s rich and enjoys buying cars.” A stern “Nahhhhhhhh!” would be followed by a dismissive wave of his hand. I miss the old codger. He could be an ass, but he meant well.
Where the hell am I going with this? Oh yeah. The Eagles don’t have one starting middle linebacker right now — they have three. The newest face pegged to replace Stew Bradley (someone else [...]

Lincin’ on a Friday
To salute the week that was, here is the best of the best in the sports blogosphere.
Bigger boozer: Orton or Cutler? (Bear Goggles On)
Better scrabble player: Shaq or Kimmel? (NESW Sports)
More deadly: Chris Cooley or KILLER BEES? (Style Points)
Larger ego: McDaniels or Marshall? (Predominantly Orange)
Faster serve: Roddick or Letterman? (Tony Blogs)
Sillier: A gargantuan video board or the NFL’s “do over” rule? (Bootlegger Sports)
More dangerous: The word “schism” or an STD? (The Viking Age)
All the hype surrounding the much anticipated (by some) return of Michael Vick did nothing to prevent the Eagles from playing sloppy football once again. Turnovers and penalties plagued them all night. As did the unbalanced offense we have all come to love. Basically, none of the bounces went the Birds way. It reminded me of one of those mid-season clunkers against an inferior opponent that Reid-coached teams are famous for. Here’s what I saw:
Positives:
No Westbrook – I was glad to see this. Won’t play next week either.
They won the game 33-32 – I prefer a win, no [...]
Another Game That Doesn’t Count
Maybe it’s due to all the news surrounding the Eagles in recent weeks, but this exhibition season is really dragging. I need for it to be over. My interest level in fake games is minimal.
I suppose I could do what every other blogger and media scribe will do today and post about what to look for tonight or questions that need to be answered or position battles to watch or how Vick will be used, but you guys and gals already know that stuff. Right?
I could also pontificate about signing T.J. Duckett or the trade rumors swirling around Reggie Brown, [...]
Fokou Who?
There seems to be a growing sentiment among some of the Eagles beat writers that rookie seventh-round linebacker Moise Fokou is pushing for a starting spot. Although he’s never played the MIKE backer position, Fokou has assumed the nickel linebacker role with Omar Gaither sidelined with a sprained knee.
Fokou opened eyes last Thursday versus the Colts. He led the team in tackles and registered two stops in the backfield. Is he good enough to leapfrog Joe Mays on the depth chart? He certainly doesn’t appear to have the size necessary to man the middle of the Birds defense. Listed at [...]
Did You Know…
1) … the Giants have been ravaged by injuries? Jay Alford and Chris Canty could both be placed on IR. Michael Boley is still recovering from hip surgery. Rocky Bernard is not quite ready to practice. Aaron Ross left practice today after re-injuring his hamstring. And promising rookie running back Andre Brown is done for the year with a torn Achilles.
2) … the Redskins and much-maligned quarterback Jason Campbell are struggling? No big surprise.
3) … the Cowboys look pretty good on offense? I’m telling you, the ‘Boys will be back in ‘09.
4) … Brian Westbrook has been looking [...]
Lincin’ on a Tuesday
No introduction required. Let’s get to the linking.
It’s the perfect time for predictions on the 2009 NFL season. (Paneech)
Warren Sapp has great taste in music. (NESW Sports)
32 songs for 32 teams. Good stuff. (Predominantly Orange)
Just another reason why the Chicago Bulls are happy they drafted Derrick Rose. (Not Qualified to Comment)
Does anyone like Joe Buck? (Zoner Sports)
Childhood photos of Mark Sanchez have surfaced. Avert your eyes. (Fan IQ)
The Miami Hurricanes have a rap song. Yikes. (No Guts, No Glory)
Me and my pal Sean had another of our infamous chats last night. He kept lauding how great the HBO show True Blood is for over two hours. I dig the series, but it’s not the “most awesome show of the century” as he claimed. Of course the topic of our beloved Eagles came up as well. For once, Sean raised an interesting question which I thought I’d share with the fans.
Do the Eagles have enough star players on defense?
After a heated debate, I’m not certain that they do. First, the biggest star is now playing in Denver. Second, the [...]
His name is Tony Curtis.
Sorry. My mistake.
Per Brian Seltzer of ESPN 950 via his Twitter page, the Eagles have inked tight end Tony Curtis, most recently of the Chiefs, to a one-year deal. Seltzer credits a “source.” The Birds have confirmed nothing as of 11:30pm Monday night.
Curtis must be really good. Look at the photo. He’s beating Sean Considine for a touchdown. That never happened — oh, wait a sec… I forgot, Considine sucked. Maybe Curtis can beat him again on Thursday night when they play the Jaguars. Oops… never mind. Apparently, Tony is still rehabbing a sprained [...]
If glory hounds like Shaq and T.O. can land a reality TV show, I propose Shawn Andrews be next in line. Since he decided to end his media silence (thank you Shawn!) a couple weeks ago, we the fans have been treated to some incredibly entertaining interviews.
Today, the Big Kid appeared in high spirits. He spoke (via PE.com) about his recent back examination, a lifelong love for music, the perceived lack of dedication and reaching a “zenith.” Here are some highlights (forgive me for paraphrasing).
Shawn on whether or not he really needs to practice:
“I’d be pissed off if I felt [...]
Sheldon Brown Says Don’t Panic
I love how we (myself included) start reaching for razor blades after watching the Eagles flop during the exhibition season. More often than not, Andy Reid’s charges have looked bad rather than good during the month of August. Some coaches place a greater emphasis on the games that don’t count, but Reid is not one of those guys.
That being said, Big Red was rightfully displeased with the lack of effort and execution displayed last Thursday night. It was an abnormally poor performance and one that has undoubtedly been broken down ad nauseam. The blown coverages and formation issues speak [...]
