Eagles Camp Notes: August 5th

Lots more to observe and report. Let’s get to it:

- JMac attended his first practice and worked with the #2 offense. Looked okay. Got nice separation on Hanson but a poor throw by Feeley prevented him from making the grab. He did muscle his way past Demps for a catch.

- Westy was running and cutting with Reid closely watching. Looked good, but it’s still early.

- Something is wrong with Jason Peters. Although, no one is saying anything. He went through lineman drills, but is not practicing.

- It’s becoming apparent that Shawn Andrews cannot be relied on this year. His back is still bothering him and there is no timetable for his return.

- The “Over 30″ gang got the morning off. Including “Mary Jane” Parker. Parker was at afternoon practice; so was Ellis Hobbs.

- Reggie Brown made a sweet over-the-shoulder grab over Hanson for six. Not a great day for Joselio.

- Shady can block. The question is can he do it in an actual game.

- DJax schooled Asante all morning. It’s fun to watch these two go head-to-head.

- Avant is primed to explode. Runs precise routes and catches everything.

- King Dunlap looks like an NBA power forward. He did a nice job on Trent Cole in pass-rush drills. Still a project, though.

- Hugh Douglas chatted it up with Spuds. Hugh thinks Juqua might get cut after his incident. He also likes Joe Mays. And believes DeSean will make the Pro Bowl this year. As usual, Hugh never disappoints.

- Cornelius Ingram sat out with swelling in his surgically repaired knee. Not time to panic, but something to monitor.

- Chris Gocong is being used a lot as a fifth down lineman on passing downs.

- Lorenzo Booker just isn’t big or strong enough to play in the NFL. If he makes the team, I can’t seem him contributing much.

- Jeff Lurie addressed the media and announced no Eagle will wear #20 as long as he’s the owner. Lurie gets it. He also downplayed the Joe Banner comment about the Birds having the “best roster.”

- Trent Cole likes to hunt turkey. Just thought I’d pass that along.

tracer-
yeah, i would hope it is just that. again, i am not a doctor or psychologist, and i hope i am dead wrong about shawn.

Or, armchair psychiatry aside, it could just be that his back hurts.

jd - At this point, I have no idea what to make of Shawn. He is, and has been, a mystery.

Runyan, from what I've heard, is not yet recovered from his micro-fracture surgery. No teams have contacted him. IF he can return and play, I'm sure Reid would welcome him back, but I think it would be a move of desperation. As much as it makes me cringe to write this, they may have to go into the season with Winston as the starting right tackle. Gulp.

based on what i have seen and heard from this camp, i just get the feeling that shawn does not want to play football anymore.

wish we had someone else to throw in at T, but justice is a work in progress.

runyan may be old, but is he still serviceable?
