Ex-Eagle Derrick Burgess is now an ex-Raider after being dealt to the Patriots for a 3rd in ’10 and a 5th round pick in 2011. According to Adam Schefter via Twitter, the Birds were also interested in acquiring his services:
The two teams in on Burgess all along were the Eagles and Pats. Eagles were offering a 3rd-round pick and a player. Pats offer trumped it.
If this information is accurate, it seems clear that Reid and Co. are not pleased with their defensive end rotation. Victor Abiamiri continues to be side-lined with another injury and Juqua Parker just got busted for pot. Not to mention last year’s third-round pick Bryan Smith, who is not progressing the way the team had hoped.
I wonder which “player” they were willing to part with. The Raiders are a bit thin at wide receiver. Just saying.
