Eagles Camp Notes: August 6th

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles | COMMENTS: 2 Comments |

Dare I say, a quiet day at Eagles camp. No blown-out knees or arrests. Nice.

- The offensive line is still a mess. JP not practicing. Stacy was held out, although he’s reportedly okay. Shawn continues to be MIA. Apparently, he’s getting “better.” We’ve heard this before, haven’t we?

- Joe Mays finds the ball and zeroes in on it. Guy is always mixed up in the action. I would expect teams to throw at him on first and second downs. His coverage skills are suspect.

- I’m approaching broken record status, but Avant continues to impress. He dominated a 2-minute drill. Never puts the ball on the ground.

- Sean Jones made a nice pick in the end zone during 2-minute session. Also broke-up another pass. He too is around the ball a lot.

- Maclin getting jammed by the defensive backs. He won’t back down, but needs to improve. He did burn Asante on a deep route. He accelerates quickly.

- Jason Babin looks fast. But he’s doing it against third-stringers.

- Tom Heckert stopped by to talk with Spuds. He spoke highly of Justice and punter Ken Parrish. He described Shady‘s blocking as being “phenomenal.”

- I was skeptical of Weaver‘s lead blocking ability, but he’s proven me wrong. Guy hits everything with power.

- DeSean runs by everyone. The game has slowed down and he’s playing faster. I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t have a big season.

- Jack Iguana looks average. Dimitri Patterson looks better.

- Still no “official” word on Stew‘s injury. Why no one is saying anything is puzzling.

- Those orange helmets worn during special teams drills bring back bad memories from last year’s debacle against the Bengals.

- Quintin Mikell is one sharp dude. I like him more and more each day.

Good call on Mays, midnite. He is a headhunter for sure. The coaches love the guy. I just want to see how opposing offenses attack him when he's on the field. By the way, I forgot to mention his lateral pursuit is solid. He ran down Shady on a screen pass.

Hey Scott, Remember your post about the "4 words to describe each player". I put in Joe Mays: "Watch the heads roll". You posted that before Stew got injured, and I really hope he does bust some heads this year. However, I didn't want it to be NEED for him to do so. I wish him and Stew all the luck going forward in their separate paths this year!
