Eagles Camp Notes: It’s a Wrap!

AUTHOR: Scott Tunstall | IN: Eagles | COMMENTS: 4 Comments |

Mercifully, the five-alarm fire called Training Camp ‘09 has come to an end for our beloved Eagles. They lost two men, and have a few others still working to return. All in all, it wasn’t as awful as it could have been. Stew’s injury hurts much worse than Ingram’s. On the bright side, the defense has two players who should fill the void capably: one with loads of potential (Mays), the other with experience (Gaither). How many other teams can say that?

Ingram’s loss is disappointing. The Birds rolled the dice and came up snake-eyes. Call it a lesson learned. At least they didn’t waste a third-round pick on him. Maybe he can return in 2011 and be the guy we all think he can be. Time will tell. For now, it’s the Brent Celek show, which might be a good thing if his stellar camp is any indication of his ability.

What else did we learn at Lehigh? Here’s a brief list of observations me and my fellow camp spies came away with:

- You already know these guys are great: McNabb, Mikell, Trent, DeSean and Asante

- These guys are really good: Shady, Avant, Howard, Sheldon, Akeem, Weaver and Celek.

- These guys are on the cusp of being really good: Clemons, Mays, Maclin, Herremans, Patterson and Bunkley

- The jury is still out: Justice, Demps, Gocong, Reggie Brown, Stacy and Kolb

- These guys have a long way to go: Dunlap, Macho, Tank, McGlynn and Booker

- These guys failed to impress: Bryan Smith, Iguana, Bright, Eckel and Tracy White

- These guys were average: Curtis, Hanson, Parker, Hobbs, Sean Jones, Feeley, Max, Nick Cole, Jamaal, Gibson and Wilhelm

- These guys score an incomplete: Westy, Peters, Abiamiri, Laws and Babin

- This guy fails for showing us nothing: Shawn Andrews

If we left anyone out, it’s because they weren’t worth mentioning or they failed to catch our eye. A special thanks to Pete and Janet for being my additional eyes and ears at training camp. Their texts, emails and phone calls were invaluable. Also thanks to Dave Spadaro and his PE.com team for their always excellent camp coverage.

Now, it’s back to NovaCare. Let’s hope the torn ACLs and hyper-extensions come to a complete halt.

Breaking: Brian Seltzer from 950 ESPN just tweeted quarterback Adam DiMichele will be brought back to the team. Details to follow.

Update: The stickler for the rules NFL disapproved Matt Nagy’s contract. He’ back to being an intern. Thus ends one of the shortest careers in the history of the league.

any news on josh gaines? i know he is a longshot, but i am a bit of a psu homer.

  2. Scott Tunstall says:

jd – Gaines is a longshot. He flashed at times, but the position is crowded. Maybe he’ll shine in the games. Could be a practice squad candidate.

  3. jd says:

yeah, i know he has very little chance of making the final 53.

    still, there is hope.
