Eagles Get Back To Work

Say goodbye to the bye week. Get ready for thirteen straight weeks of Eagles football (hopefully more). I took a few days off myself, but I still found time to watch the Sunday and Monday games. The Giants, Saints, 49ers and Vikings all look solid in the NFC. In the AFC, it’s the usual suspects: Colts, Patriots, Ravens and Broncos. Wait, the Broncos?

At 4-0, Denver’s defense is feeding off a familiar face. That’s right, Brian Dawkins is still flying around like a madman and making a ton of plays. Watching him the last two weeks reminded me what the Birds defense is missing. However, it’s still early in the season. I wonder if Dawk can hold up for another twelve games. He wore down last year, so it’s not foolish to think he might do so again.

The Eagles appear to be healthier than they were ten days ago. McNabb was back at practice yesterday and could start on Sunday versus the Bucs. Personally, I think they should hold him out another week, but we’ll see how this unfolds over the next few days.

Westbrook and Kevin Curtis were also back, but I’m pretty sure we’re going to continue to see a lot of Shady and Maclin during the coming weeks. They have younger, quicker legs and will be needed to contribute when the schedule gets tougher.

As for the Bucs, well… they’re a bad football team. Their once feared defense is a shadow of itself and injuries have thinned the offensive skill positions. The Birds defense loves to harass wet behind the ears signal callers, so I imagine they are salivating at the opportunity to face Josh Johnson.

Reid coached teams are 10-0 following the bye. This is not the time to trip and face-plant. Losing to the Saints doesn’t look as bad now as it did two weeks ago, but dropping one at home to an inferior opponent would be a major setback. Let’s hope gang green is on point from now until Sunday afternoon.
