DeSean By The Numbers
Sometimes I have to pinch myself while watching DeSean Jackson. I’m not used to having an explosive wide receiver who can catch and run and dominate a game wearing midnight green. Well, not since 2004, when he who shall not be named was snatching everything in sight.
As an added bonus, Jackson has yet to morph into a me-first prima donna douchebag who mugs the nearest camera at the drop of a hat. I’m really hoping he keeps his ego in check. It would be nice to have one of the “good” superstar wide receivers, rather than a problem child.
I find DeSean’s stats through seven games very interesting. Here are a few nuggets worth noting:
- His 24 catches are the fewest among the Top 20 wideouts.
- With 501 yards through seven games, he is well on pace to eclipse 1000 yards.
- His 6 total touchdowns has already surpassed last year’s total of 4.
- He’s currently on pace to catch fewer passes than he did as a rookie, when he caught 62.
- His 20.9 per catch average is second to only Miles Austin of those with at least 20 receptions.
- 16 of his 24 grabs have gone for first downs.
- His 6 catches for 40+ yards is tops in the league. Larry Fitzgerald, Reggie Wayne and Devin Hester have no catches over 40 yards.
What does all this mean? Not much, except that this Jackson kid is pretty damn good. Oh, and that he should probably touch the ball way more than he does. Are you listening Andy Reid?
