Cheesesteak of the Week
Awarding cheesesteaks after a victory feels ten times better than after a loss. There are so many more candidates to choose from. While Sunday night’s win was far from perfect, it was easy to single out those deserving of a savory steak sandwich slathered with cheese and onions.
So, who gets the nod? I went back and forth with a few guys, but settled on two. I think this dynamic duo set the tone in a game labeled a “must-win.” Both sides of the ball are represented this week. And the winners are…
Shady McCoy and Sheldon Brown

He didn’t crack 100 yards, but he got damn close. 99 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries is rock solid. Shady has made drastic improvements since the early stages of the season. His decision making is sound and he’s beginning to trust his blockers. Celek, Peters and Weaver all executed key blocks on the touchdown scamper. However, ball security and blitz pickup continue to be issues for McCoy. Now that he’s the man in the Birds backfield, he must work on eliminating crucial mistakes.
Sheldon could have elected to sit this one out. An extra week of rest on his ailing hamstring probably would’ve been a big help. But Sheldon Brown doesn’t miss must-win games. He got burned badly a couple times, but also supplied textbook coverage and tackling. He gutted it out and hopefully sent a message to all the young players and new faces that playing hurt is sometimes a necessity. Are you listening Jason Peters?
