Eagles Don’t Need The Stink of Dick Jauron

Posted by: Scott Tunstall

Man, I hope this isn’t true. Undead former Bills and Bears head coach Dick Jauron has reportedly been hired by the Eagles to coach the defensive backs. Of course, no comment has been issued by the Birds… yet.

Andy Reid knows Dicky boy from their time together in Green Bay. He may very well be a fine position coach, but the guy seems to carry the specter of losing wherever he goes. Yeah, I know, he once went 13-3 with Jim Miller under center, but his track record has been deplorable since then.

Not that Brian Stewart was any great shakes either. He offered zero help in losing to the Cowboys three times. Well, they gotta give the job to somebody. I would rather it be someone who doesn’t sleep in a coffin, but who knows, maybe the old bastard will help young McDermott see the error of his ways. Either that or he’ll drink his blood and transform him into a fellow creature of the night, which I have to admit would be pretty damn cool.

Haha you seem to be quite against the idea of bringing in Jauron, but he is experienced and could help bring some defensive/secondary help to the team. We’ll see, I suppose.

I agree with Cody and am offended with your description of Coach Jauron. I am happy the Birds were able to bring a guy with that much experience in. “You don’t stop coaching when you get old. You get old when you stop caching”

i think it’s a great move. jauron is a good football mind, but is just not cut out to be a head coach. there are lots of guys who were meant to be just coordinators and he is one of them. he also has experience with helping troy vincent make the transition from cb to fs, and i think the eagles may try this with sheldon brown.

I fairly confident in saying that you don’t know Dick Jauron well enough to bash him the way you are. No, he’s probably not head coach material, but he’s known to be a strong defensive mind. I think he will do well as a position coach. I also think the Eagles are manuevering Jauron as a possible DC should McDermott not show any improvement this year.
I like the move by the Eagles. The more experience they bring in, the better. The guy’s been coaching in the NFL for years now for a reason.
