Eagles Cut Will Witherspoon

I’d call this a shocker. The Eagles have dumped linebacker Will Witherspoon less than six months after trading for him. As we all know, the Birds had a myriad of problems at the linebacker positions in 2009, so cutting Will, who was probably their best player, strikes me as strange.

Maybe they will bring him back or maybe they plan on giving Akeem Jordan a long-term deal. The free agent pool of backers is thin at best. Never a dull day in Eagles Nation.

please please tell me WTF they Eagles are doing...The release the most consistant player at LB they had and then they go and let the Giants sign the best (on the market) safety Antrel Rolle and thats one of the most needed positions on the team. GOD I hate Andy "I'll eat any in sight" Reid

The Eagles are doing what they always do, like it or not. They are opting for youth rather than overpaying for age. Rolle is overrated. He's an average safety at best. The Eagles believe in Macho Harris and if they don't, they will assuredly draft a safety, and this draft has a bunch of good ones.

Also, there is a chance Spoon could be re-signed at a lower price.
