Here’s how it went down. The Birds sent a fifth-round pick in this year’s draft to the Broncos for tight end Tony Scheffler and a seventh-rounder. Then they shipped Scheffler and the pick to Detroit for Sims. Got all that? I’m not even sure I do. Howie makes things exciting, no?
Sims will enter his fifth season and has started 56 of 59 games played. He will likely compete with Akeem Jordan for the starting WIL spot. I like the move if no other reason than it gives the defense needed depth at linebacker. Sims is still young and should benefit from having better players around him.
This move also probably means the Eagles will once again ignore the position, at least early, in the draft. I’m not so crazy about that. They need some legit talent, but Reid for whatever reason just doesn’t place a priority on backers. Anyway, Sims should help. Especially since all it cost to get him was a fifth-rounder.
The Iggles now have ten picks. That is until they make another trade.
