Please Andy Reid, Don’t Draft These Guys
Amidst the glut of rumors swirling to and fro over the last few weeks in regards to who the Eagles may or may not pick during this week’s draft, I noted three players I DO NOT want Reid/Roseman to consider. If I hear any of their names called to wear the midnight green, I will most displeased. Jason Pierre-Paul – A one-year wonder who relies too much on his natural ability. This guy has BUST written all over him. If they select a pass rusher early let it be Derrick Morgan or Jerry Hughes. Taylor Mays – Roy Williams part [...]
Dexter Is Killer
If you’ve been following Andy Reid drafts over the years, you know he loves gimmicky players. Small, shifty guys who can operate in space and cause matchup nightmares. Initially, Brian Westbrook was drafted to be a change of pace back, not the superstar workhorse he ended up becoming. Ryan Moats and Lorenzo Booker were failed experiments, but that doesn’t mean Reid will suddenly shy away from plucking another toy from the ranks. One of the more dynamic and enticing players available this year is Mississippi running back/wide receiver Dexter McCluster.
Eagles On The Block
The Eagles love to wheel ‘n’ deal during draft weekend. Expect at least a couple moves at some point once things get rolling. With Howie Roseman bringing an aggressive approach to his first draft as GM, some players as well as picks could be dealt. Which vets are most likely to be sent packing? Here are four names to consider. – Juqua Parker – Darryl Tapp’s arrival and the possibility of trading up to land someone like Derrick Morgan makes Parker expendable. He turns 32 in May. Howie hates old guys. Bye, bye JP. – Mike Patterson – I like [...]
Last Minute Draft Predictions
It’s once again time to stick my neck out and attempt to forecast who will end up in midnight green. I’m bracing for a savage beheading this time out, since I nailed both Shady and Ingram last April. That was the Reid/Heckert regime. Now it’s Reid/Roseman. I have no idea what the hell these two are planning. Anyone who claims to is a big fat fibber. Before making my straight predictions, minus zany trade scenarios, I’ll tell you what I really think is going to happen tomorrow night. A lot of fans and pundits are all but convinced the Birds [...]
Draft Dossier: Eric Berry
Eric Berry: Free safety, Junior – Tennessee Height\Weight: 5’11″, 215 lbs Career stats: 39 games played, 245 tackles, 14 INTs, 17 PDs 40-time: 4.47 Berry is arguably the best overall player in the 2010 draft. He’s fast, physical, competitive and versatile. Can play both man and zone schemes. Is a true ballhawk with soft hands and incredible instincts. Has amazing closing speed and will lower the boom when given the opportunity. Brings leadership and a strong work ethic to the table. Was a three-year starter and two-time unanimous first-team All-American. The best safety prospect since Sean Taylor. Is a surefire [...]
Eagles 2010 Schedule Is Finally Here
It took the NFL long enough, but the 2010 schedule has finally been unveiled. If it was the league’s intent to own this week’s headlines, mission accomplished. Schedule today, draft on Thursday. It’s all NFL, all the time. For the record, I love it. Anyway, here’s a looksee at the Eagles week-by-week schedule. Let the Kolb era commence! Week 1: GREEN BAY – Kolb versus Rodgers. Should be plenty of fireworks. Week 2: at Detroit – Kolb versus Stafford. Doesn’t get any better than that. Wait, yes it does. Week 3: at Jacksonville – The Eagles usually suck when they [...]
It’s Howie Doody Time!
For the last few years a lot of Eagles fans complained ad nauseam that the front office wasn’t being aggressive enough during the offseason. Why didn’t they sign this big ticket free agent or trade for that disgruntled wide receiver or move up in the draft and select so-and-so? While I personally don’t agree with the notion that the Birds played it close to the vest during the Tom Heckert era, I will admit the philosophy utilized was rarely altered. In other words, there wasn’t much rocking of the boat. Deals were swung that made sense (Jason Peters trade, moving [...]
Eagles Acquire LB Ernie Sims From Lions
Boy, these Eagles sure do love making trades. It was announced this morning that they have acquired Lions starting linebacker Ernie Sims in a three-way deal that also involved Denver. Here’s how it went down. The Birds sent a fifth-round pick in this year’s draft to the Broncos for tight end Tony Scheffler and a seventh-rounder. Then they shipped Scheffler and the pick to Detroit for Sims. Got all that? I’m not even sure I do. Howie makes things exciting, no? Sims will enter his fifth season and has started 56 of 59 games played. He will likely compete with [...]
Draft Dossier: Tony Pike
Tony Pike: Quarterback, Senior – Cincinnati Height\Weight: 6’5″, 225 Career stats: 27 games played, 5018 yards passing, 61.7% completion rate, 49 TDs, 20 INTs 40-time: 4.93 Went 21-4 as the Bearcats starter in 2008 and 2009. Led them to back-to-back Big East titles. Pike is tall, rangy and athletic. Displays excellent vision and throws with poise and accuracy. Moves well inside the pocket and can throw on the run. Very intelligent and has plenty of big game experience. Needs to add weight. Suffered a string of injuries in five years. Played in a shotgun offense. Arm strength is good, not [...]
FanSided Joins Forces With CBS Sports
Big news out of the FanSided offices. Starting tomorrow at 1pm ET on CBSSports.com, all 32 NFL bloggers from this very network, including yours truly, will be participating in a Live Mock Draft. We’ll go as long as it takes to get through the first two rounds of 2010 NFL Draft. This promises to be a blast. I get three shots at picking future players to don the midnight green. First up, is #24 in the opening round, followed by picks #37 and #55 in the second. I’ll do my best to add guys who fill needs, but also can [...]
Rewinding the 2007 Draft
I love turning back the clock on past drafts. It’s fun to see how bad or good certain teams did in their scouting. Bucky Brooks over at NFL.com did that very thing for the 2007 draft. If you recall, the Eagles traded out of the first-round with the hated Cowboys, then selected some unheralded quarterback from Houston in the second. So, there were zero opening round picks for our beloved Birds. However, with the benefit of hindsight, Brooks has pegged a couple current Eagles who should’ve been first-rounders, but weren’t. Who are the lucky pair? Try Kevin Kolb and Brent [...]
Draft Dossier: Kareem Jackson
Kareem Jackson: Cornerback, Junior – Alabama Height/Weight: 5’10″, 196 Career stats: 41 games played, 159 tackles, 5 INT, 29 PDs 40-time: 4.48 Jackson is creeping up draft boards in recent weeks and could sneak into the first round. He’s a tremendous athlete with good size and speed. Can anticipate routes and closes on the ball quickly. Is experienced in both man and zone schemes. Has the strength to jam receivers at the line. Possesses supreme confidence and plays with an edge. Will attack the run game, but is an inconsistent and lazy tackler at times. Surgically repaired shoulder is a [...]
