While reading this piece by Spuds over at pe.com, I found myself extremely impressed with something Kevin Kolb had to say about life in the NFL. It went as follows:
“You’re just renting time from the NFL. So I want to make this thing count, make a run and go win a Super Bowl,” said Kolb.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard it put that way before. Guys are “renting time.” I like that. I like that a lot. The more KK speaks, the more I listen. His attitude is right where it needs to be and he is taking the quarterback of the present and future business in stride.
Obviously he needs to make it count on the field, but don’t underestimate his aptitude off the field either. Playing quarterback in Philly is a tall order. Kolb’s no-nonsense approach to the media and fans should serve him well when times get tough.
He doesn’t seem the type to hide behind a microphone and sidestep hard questions. The brutally honest approach will be a departure, but a refreshing one if I may be so bold. Carry on, Mr. Kolb. So far, you’re saying and doing all the right things.
