Vick’s Predicament

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News | COMMENTS: 3 Comments |

I’d just like to expand a bit on the situation with Michael Vick. To summarize what happened: an old dog fighting associate of Vick was shot outside a restaurant where Vick was celebrating his 30th birthday. The altercation had something to do with someone either smashing the cake in Vicks face, or threatening to do so. After what ever happened with the cake, Vick’s old friend was shot in the parking lot of the restaurant. Although Vick is not a person of interest to police, this does not bode well for his attempted return to NFL stardom and the cleansing of his image in the eyes of the public.

As a just a regular Joe I feel somewhat bad for Vick in this situation. He was attempting to celebrate his birthday. Surely everyone deserves that, especially someone who spent time behind bars and is now a free man. To be able to celebrate with your friends and family is something I’m sure he does not take lightly. But as the old adage goes “It’s the company you keep”. Vick is on very thin ice with the NFL and with the public. He cannot be having people from this dark part of his life around him anymore. It’s as simple as that. He’s a professional athlete and a celebrity, and he needs to hold himself to a higher standard. As part of his reinstatement and probation he isn’t even supposed to associate with those people any more.

Although there are likely no legal repercussions headed towards Vick, it’s really only the tip of the iceberg. This will not sit well in the eyes of Roger Goodell and the Eagles organization. Right now we have to just wait and see as they gather the facts.

But we have to face the issue that, because of this incident, Vick stands a chance of losing his spot in the Eagle’s organzation and even in the NFL.

Check out Les Bowen’s article at Philly.com here to get the entire details on what went down. Be sure the leave your comment on this situation in this post of on twitter @InsidetheIggles . I’ll do my best to keep you posted on this situation as the NFL and Eagles make their opinions and decisions known.

The opinions of Vick are all over the map, but one thing is for sure: If he truly is committed to putting that part of his life behind him, this stuff cannot be happening. If his old acquaintance was there because he was invited, it speaks very poorly of his efforts to become a better person.

Vick's talent does not give him a moral free pass. Culture aside, there are basic tenents of right and wrong. He should still be in jail and never should have been allowed in the NFL again. I guess money talks. Shame on you. I hope with all my might that Mr. Vick one day experiences the pain that those dogs went through. I hope he rots.

Say what you want about Vick ("he's a thug") but it'd sure be fun with #2 QB as Kafta...

I wonder what kinds of feelers the Eagles are sending out now to potential backups. Its amazing how Jeff Garcia's name never ever disappears.
Purely hypothetical, I realize we are a long way from getting another backup QB, who else would be out there? If anyone says Jamarcus, so help me god...
