Eagles head coach Andy Reid and owner Jeffrey Lurie have a young team in 2010.

The Eagles average age is 24.1, and the players and coaches know it.  Head coach Andy Reid mentioned it to his players during a meeting and it remains on the players’ minds throughout practice. Ellis Hobbs and LeSean McCoy both mentioned the average in talking to the media, and Stewart Bradley commented on the new feel.

“There’s definitely a sense of turnover, because of all of the new faces we have here.  But there’s also a sense of ownership,” said the 25-year-old linebacker.  That seems to be the mindset of many of the young players stepping into leadership roles.
LeSean McCoy is one of those youthful leaders, but he was quick to point out that there is certainly a team mentality this season. “We’re a young group, but we’re talented and we work hard. No one player is bigger than the team, we have that type of attitude.  Since we’re younger, we’re all together.”
It’s important that the Eagles continue to display that confidence and sense of personal and team responsibility for their success or failure in 2010.  McCoy mentioned that he’s feeling some of that pressure due to coming into the season as a starter, “Some of the areas where there were mistakes I kind of made last year, I know that I can’t do it this year.”
McCoy said that last year he was able to take some moral victories out of his performance as a rookie.  This year it’s a different story, “Now when you’re a starter, you’ve got to come into practice ready to work.  No mental errors, no messing up.”
While veterans like Asante Samuel, Juqua Parker and Jason Peters remain on the team, there is a growing feeling that the Eagles have a youthful personality as a bunch.  Whether that translates into wins on the field remains to be seen, but so far it is definitely showing up in the form of excitement in practice.
