You know it’s a quiet offseason in the world of the Philadelphia Eagles when the current discussion is the balance of power between head coach Andy Reid and team president Joe Banner.  An article by Ashley Fox and Mike Jensen in the Philadelphia Inquirer suggests that the two do not get along as well as they claim and that Banner has all of the power. I’m sure I’m not the only one, but my favorite part of training camp is watching players battle it out for the starting spots on the roster. Last year we saw some good competition at receiver, defensive end and in the secondary. It looks like this season will be no different, with a few other positions thrown in the mix as well. With that in mind, one would think that 2010 would be a big year for the coordinator who has been on the radar as one of the top up and coming coaches in the NFL. Don’t expect Andy Reid and company to change the playbook or the playcalling, as Kolb has been around long enough to have the full playbook available. That said, the same plays will look very different with Kolb under center.

While doing my daily lurking of all that is Eagles, I stumbled upon an interesting article over on the ESPN website. The Eagles have signed wide receiver Riley Cooper, the fifth round draft pick out of Florida to a four-year contract.

In two and a half weeks, the Philadelphia Eagles will open their most important training camp in more than a decade. Not since the summer of 2000, with Donovan McNabb heading into his first season as a starting quarterback, has Andy Reid led a squad into Lehigh Valley with more question marks.

If I had to list a few of my favorite Eagles, I’d mention guys like DeSean Jackson, Brent Celek, Stewart Bradley and Leonard Weaver. But to round out my top 5, I’d put a guy that isn’t really a commonly mentioned name as far as favorites go. That man would be linebacker Omar Gaither.
