The Eagles offensive line is one step closer to being a healthy, cohesive unit. Left guard Todd Herremans and center Jamaal Jackson returned to practice today after being taken off the PUP (physically unable to perform) list. Jackson is recovering from ACL surgery, while Herremans is coming off of a foot injury.

“I appreciate the effort they’ve put in to come back from what they had,” said head coach Andy Reid. The two were in full pads, but only participated in the non-contact portion of practice before returning inside to work out.

“They were feeling good and they had progressed far enough, the doctors gave them the clear and [head athletic trainer] Rick [Burkholder] thought they were ready to start up,” Reid said. “Again, we’re just going to take it easy and gradually work them back in.”

Reid did indicate that this puts Jamaal Jackson a little ahead of schedule, but wouldn’t comment on whether he might be available for the season opener, saying the Eagles will take it a day at a time. Nick Cole remains the starting center, according to Reid, despite his knee injury and the strong play of Mike McGlynn in the preseason opener.

“I thought [McGlynn] did a good job. I thought he played very well,” said Reid. “I thought he played very well in both the run and the pass game. He looked like he had good control of the huddle and the calls up front. The shotgun snaps were accurate, so I thought all in all it was a good day.”

McGlynn practiced with the top unit today with Cole still nursing a knee injury and Jackson not cleared for contact. Max Jean-Gilles remained the left guard with the ones.

Reid also didn’t specify whether or not Herremans would see any game action before the regular season, but even though Herremans is a veteran, Reid believes a preseason start would be advantagous. “He’d love to get in a game and get to that speed and see how he does there,” Reid said.

Injury Report

Macho Harris (hamstring) also returned to the non-contact portion of practice in full pads. Mike Bell returned from his hamstring injury, but left practice with a calf strain. J.J. Arrington (foot strain), Nick Cole (knee) and Quintin Demps (knee bone contusion) did not practice. Antoine Harris has been placed on injured reserve with a Lisfranc sprain sustained in the preseason opener. Victor Abiamiri (knee) remains on the PUP.
