Eagles and Lions Meet in Battle of Backups
If it’s possible to have a must-win game in week two of an NFL season, then this just might qualify for the Eagles. With a schedule loaded with quality opponents and tough road games in November and December, the Eagles can’t afford to start 0-2.
Eagles’ Graham Enjoys Homecoming in Detroit
Things will be a little different for Brandon Graham during today’s trip to Ford Field in Detroit. For starters, the Eagles’ rookie won’t have to run a mile to get a glimpse of the stadium.
Previewing the Lions
The Detroit Lions are mired in as bad of a stretch as anyone has experienced in modern NFL history, having won just three of their last 41 games. A look down their roster shows you why. The Lions are truly a one weapon team on offense, with the dominant Calvin Johnson standing head and toes above his teammates. “This guy is extremely talented,” said Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott. “And you watch him on film and he can turn the tables in a hurry, not only just going up for the ball, like we saw last week against [the] Chicago [...]
Meet Owen Schmitt: The Runaway Beer Truck
During his collegiate days at West Virginia, Mountaineer fans nicknamed Schmitt “The Runaway Beer Truck.” What’s not to love about that?
ITI Weekly: “Controversy,” 4th and 1 and Lions
This week Ryan Messick, Matt Martucci and Eytan Shander take off the gloves and discuss the Eagles loss to Green Bay (hint: the coaching staff takes a lot of blame), the budding quarterback “controversy” in Philadelphia, and the matchups with the Detroit Lions this week.
Vick Will Start in Detroit, Says It’s Surreal
Michael Vick is officially a starting quarterback, if only for a week. The Eagles finally ruled the concussed Kevin Kolb out for this week’s contest in Detroit, an announcement that comes as no surprise. That gives Vick the opportunity to start for the first time since December 31, 2006, a 24-17 loss for his Atlanta squad here in Philadelphia. The 30-year-old believes that coming on last week in relief of Kolb took care of the nerves you might expect in his return as a starter. “I think last week kind of broke the ice for me as far as getting [...]
Vick Prepared to Start for Eagles
On Sunday, Vick will try to do something he hasn’t done in three years, nine months and nine days: win a football game as a starting quarterback.
Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb and linebacker Stewart Bradley attended team meetings today, which indicates improvement during their return from their concussions according to head coach Andy Reid’s statements yesterday. “If they continue to progress tomorrow morning, then they’ll have the opportunity to sit in on meetings,” Reid said Wednesday. Today the team said the two will not practice, but were able to exercise. That leaves their chances of playing when the Eagles visit the Lions Sunday extremely low. Assuming Kolb and Bradley are out Sunday, Michael Vick and Omar Gaither will start in their respective spots. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg [...]
With former backup QB Kevin Kolb marking his less than memorable debut Sunday as the first new starting Eagles signal caller in 11 years, only time will tell what his Philadelphia legacy will be. The history of quarterbacks in the City of Brotherly love has traditionally been a love/hate relationship, with Eagles fans notoriously quick to pull the plug on their affections after a few losses. It will be an interesting social experiment to see how this city’s fickle fans support Kolb as the season progresses. If he is cleared and ultimately returns to play for the remainder of the [...]
Happening around the NFC East
So we’ve spent the last three days lamenting what’s going on with the Eagles – the quarterbacks, the concussions, the ACL. But what about the other teams in the division? They were busy with their own season opener. Of course you’ve been reading for the injury reports and failed concussion tests but you’ve got to hope the season isn’t over just yet. So how did the other teams stack up this weekend? Here’s a roundup of all information you need to know about the NFC East this week. GIANTS They opened up their season in the new Giants Stadium (worth [...]
Kolb’s Job
The first question everyone asked after the Eagles 27-20 loss to the Packers Sunday, was who will be the starting quarterback. Well it’s pretty straightforward, unless physically unable to play, Kevin Kolb is the starter in Philadelphia. Nothing pretty in Kolb’s first start behind center as the number one guy in town. He completed just five passes good for twenty four yards. A fantasy nightmare to say the least. However as good as Vick looked and as poor as Kolb looked, Eagles fans need to stay the course here, remain patient. Both were products of how the Packers played each [...]
Breaking it Down: 4th and 1
The Eagles were down a touchdown with 2:00 left to play at the Packers 42-yardline facing 4th and 1. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said the Eagles expected a zero blitz from the Packers on the play, and called an appropriate play for the situation.
