Still a Learning Process for the Birds

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

So another preseason has come and gone under the Andy Reid era, but clearly there’s a new feel this time around. Not only with the new presence at quarterback in Kevin Kolb, but the overall youth movement from starter to reserve. There are a lot of high expectations for this young team, most of it based on the overwhelming success this team has had with both Reid and Donovan McNabb at the helm. Combine it with a veteran presence on the defense with Brian Dawkins, and it makes sense the expectations for a Super Bowl haven’t dropped off, if anything [...]

Donovan McNabb: A First Round Draft Pick, But Never First in My Heart

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

As a 40 year old female from Philadelphia who bleeds green, I am looking forward to seeing Donovan McNabb jog onto the field for his first official NFL game in his ugly new maroon and gold Redskins jersey.  Over the course of his decade long stint in the city of Brotherly Love, I’ve experienced every possible emotion from elation and suspended disbelief when the Eagles reached the Super Bowl to the depths of despair and frustration after the Carolina NFC Championship playoff loss in 2003. I’ve been through a lot as a lifelong Eagles fan.  I recall sitting in a [...]

Wells Hopes to Start in Philly

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles | COMMENTS: None Yet

With the departure of Stacy Andrews, Nick Cole is the Eagles starting right guard, but the fifth year Eagle may not have much room for error.  The newly acquired Reggie Wells is a guard who wants a starting spot.  Wells had a choice to stay in Arizona as a backup, or take his chances in Philadelphia. “I’m not coming out here, you know, just to be a full time backup or anything,” said Wells. “I still feel that I can play in this league, and that’s why I’m coming out here. We’ll take all the rest from there, but they’re [...]

Eagles Trade Andrews and White, Shrink Roster to 52

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Eagles used every minute and then some leading up to the 6 p.m. deadline to trim their roster below the 53 man limit.  Philadelphia got the paperwork in on the trade of Stacy Andrews to the Seattle Seahawks at 6:03. The Eagles received a seventh round pick in next year’s draft for Andrews in what was the fourth trade of the weekend by general manager Howie Roseman. First, Philadelphia acquired offensive lineman Reggie Wells from Arizona for a sixth round pick in next year’s draft.  Then Philadelphia picked up defensive end/linebacker Antwan Barnes from Baltimore for an undisclosed pick [...]

Eagles Trim Roster to 53 – Andrews Traded, Demps, Harris, Ingram Among Cuts

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles | COMMENTS: None Yet

Stacy Andrews, Macho Harris, Quintin Demps and Cornelius Ingram were the most notable casualties as the Eagles trimmed their roster down to 53 today by cutting 12 players.  Andrews was traded to Seattle for a late round draft pick in 2011. The Eagles also released Chad Hall, Jordan Norwood, A.Q. Shipley, Dallas Reynolds, Fenuki Tupou, Eric Moncur, Jeff Owens, Kelley Washington and Tracy White. King Dunlap, Jorrick Calvin, Hank Baskett and Jamar Chaney were among those survivors who were considered to be potential cut victims heading into the weekend. Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman will speak with the media shortly [...]

Updated Eagles Roster Projections

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles, Preseason | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Eagles have been busy this weekend, making a pair of trades to bolster the offensive and defensive lines.  Yesterday, Philadelphia acquired Reggie Wells from Arizona or a sixth round pick in next year’s draft.  The lineman had started 90 games for Arizona since 2003, including 78 at left guard. Today the Birds picked up Antwan Barnes, a defensive end and linebacker from the Ravens.  The Eagles gave up an undisclosed draft pick for the FIU product.  Barnes played outside linebacker last year for Baltimore in their 3-4 scheme. The moves came along with ten cuts, thus leaving the Eagles [...]

Breaking it Down: Projecting the Eagles 53-man Roster

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Below are my projections for the Eagles’ 53-man roster, which will be announced within the next 30 hours. There are some close calls to make, mostly involving where to carry an extra player due to special teams skills.  After the official roster is released, we’ll take a look back and see just how accurate the predictions were. QB (3): Kevin Kolb, Mike Vick, Mike Kafka This is as simple as it gets. The Eagles will carry three, there are three on the roster and that’s all there is to it. RB/FB (4): LeSean McCoy, Mike Bell, Eldra Buckley, Leonard Weaver [...]

Waiting Game Begins for Eagles on Roster Bubble

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles, Preseason, Training Camp | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Eagles will cut their roster down to 53 by Saturday afternoon, and lots of players are left wondering if they’ll still be around.  After tonight’s 21-17 loss to the Jets, those on the fringe all had the same mindset – they thought they did enough, but they just had to wait and hope. When it comes down to the last few spots, special teams and flexibility can make the difference.  Take for example the backup free safety position, where Macho Harris made the start tonight and Quintin Demps played the second half. Harris can be used as a corner [...]

Eagles Fall to Jets 21-17 in Final Preseason Game

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles, Gameday, Preseason | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Eagles fell to the Jets 21-17 Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field in the final preseason game. Kurt Coleman’s two first half touchdowns on fumble recoveries were the highlights for the Eagles, who did not score an offensive touchdown. After an early David Akers field goal, Coleman scored the Eagles first touchdown of the game on the final play of the first quarter, taking a Joe McKnight fumble 64 yards the other way to put the Birds up 10-0. The Jets answered in the middle of the second quarter, after an interception of Mike Kafka by Emanuel Cook gave [...]

Eagles Lead Jets 17-14 After 3rd Quarter

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles, Gameday, Preseason | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Eagles lead the Jets 17-14 after three quarters.  Kurt Coleman’s two first half touchdowns got the Eagles going, and the safety now leads all Eagles with two preseason touchdowns. After an early David Akers field goal, Coleman scored the Eagles first touchdown of the game on the final play of the first quarter, taking a Joe McKnight fumble 64 yards the other way.  The Jets answered in the middle of the second quarter, after an interception of Mike Kafka by Emanuel Cook gave New York the ball at the Eagles 15-yardline. Five plays later, Mark Brunell found Jeff Cumberland [...]

Eagles Lead Jets 17-7 At Halftime, Coleman Two Touchdowns

AUTHOR: | IN: Eagles | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Eagles lead the Jets 17-7 at halftime.  Kurt Coleman leads the way with a pair of fumble recoveries for touchdowns, and now leads all Eagles with two preseason touchdowns.  Coleman’s first came on a Joe McKnight fumble at the end of the first quarter.  The rookie safety took it 64 yards to the house. Late in the first half, John Conner fumbled at the end of a 7-yard run and Coleman scooped it up and dove into the end zone to put the Eagles up 17-7.  In between the two Coleman touchdowns, the Jets scored one of their own [...]
