According to multiple sources, Desean Jackson has no plans to attend Eagles training camp at Lehigh on Wednesday, and may possibly miss Thursday as well.
Hopefully this won’t turn into a holdout, as the star wideout is still looking for a better deal entering the final year of his rookie contract with a salary of just over $500,000. Santonio Holmes huge, multi-million dollar contract with the Jets this morning might be a motivating factor, and will surely drive up the price for one of the most dangerous men in football.
According to league rules, players on teams who were supposed to report to camp tomorrow are allowed to show up as late as Thursday without consequence, but as vocal as DJax has been about his deal throughout this offseason (and the tail end of last season) there’s a good chance this could turn into a problem.
Andy Reid knows, however, that he needs to get a deal done for Desean and I don’t forsee a repeat of the T.O. mess in 2005 when one minor contract dispute pretty much killed a Superbowl team. Desean has worked hard, outperformed his second-round pay scale, and earned every dollar he will surely get. Hopefully that happens sooner than later.
