Editor’s Note: Our apologies for the break in coverage today. Both Mike and I were at Lehigh and the mobile WordPress app we usually use to post on the go went down for no apparent reason. If you were following us on Twitter though (@InsideIggles, wink wink) you didn’t miss a thing. Still, sorry for the lapse. Anyway
As I headed to Lehigh today, I was already excited enough to know that I would have to opportunity to even see Vince Young or Jason Babin walk on the field; and that I would see DRC run a few plays with the first team defense.
Now I hear the news that the Eagles have landed Cullen Jenkins. Are you kidding me??? Am I sleeping through an incredible dream where the Eagles are filling every single, even miniscule, need? Am I going to wake up and realize that the Eagles signed another scat back, and a third string corner back, and maybe re-signed Stewart Bradley or someone of that sort? I certainly hope not.
I am incredibly satisfied with the moves so far and I honestly do not think they’re done. If you’re on this type of roll, and you’re filling every single need, there’s still a couple more to fill up here. We have an all-pro cornerback tandem, no matter who’s here or not. We have a great compliment to Trent Cole at LDE. We have, for the second year in a row, potentially one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league. And now we have a versatile, hole plugging run stuffer on the defensive line.
As I listened to sports talk radio the first few days of this week, people were crucifying the Eagles for not doing anything but signing Babin. Now I can firmly say that there is an amazing buzz at Lehigh like I haven’t felt since the Terrell Owens and Jevon Kearse offseason of 2004. Michael Vick was being praised and serenaded with chants and cheers (sometimes just for looking at the crowd), Vince Young was immediately applauded once he walked on the field, and the optimism was through the roof.
Obviously, you don’t win the Lombardi Trophy for being the best team in the offseason. But I love the direction that the Birds are heading in and you can’t fault them for being stingy with the duckets this year. They’re doing everything they can to put the best finished product on the field come September 11th. As I’ve stated, and as you’ve probably noticed, I’m freaking pumped!! And I’m pretty sure; they’re not done yet. Plaxico?
