Editor’s Note: Article by staff writer Steve FiniIt’s finally here: Week 1 of the NFL regular season. It’s been a long, grueling offseason for us as Eagles fans. We’ve had months to get ready for this Sunday. It started the day after those “beloved” Packers raised the Lombardi trophy. We had to relive the “Fade That Never Made…It” to Riley Cooper over and over again.
Luckily, since the offseason began on time this year, we were able to watch our rookies and newly acquired veterans get together with our established coaches. They were able to go through rookie camps and OTAs together. They formed bonds, like brothers, over months. This all happened, of course, while they studied their playbooks so they could step on to the field at Lehigh and hit the ground running.
Wait. Nevermind. Wrong year.
This offseason was more like a freight train. You could see the CBA coming from a distance, rounding that turn ever so slowly, and then…BAM! Training camp was upon us, Kevin Kolb was a Cardinal, the Eagles signed Nnamdi Asomugha (and everyone else, too), and the Eagles became the focus of ESPN and various national media outlets (Thanks, Vince!).
We also saw how the effects of not having a real offseason cost players like Danny Watkins and Casey Mathews valuable learning experience.
Now that the crazy offseason during which we loved, worried, then really worried about the Eagles is over, the Rams are the first test in what hopes to be the year that provides a much needed triumph in what has been a troubled history of Philadelphia football.
We’ll be back later with how both teams shape up on each side of the ball and examine some key matchups that will help determine which team comes out on top Sunday in St. Louis. In case you can’t tell, we here at ITI are just a bit excited.
